You know you're making some dumb decisions when the teenage boy is going "hey I don't think this is a good decision".... That was painfully stupid to watch.... I kept hoping the snake was going to bite him honestly.

One of the most helpful things I ever did was learn the different types of venomous snakes in the area. Anyone spending a regular amount of time outdoors should learn to identify the types of venomous snakes in their area. I think there are only 4 types of venomous snakes around here... Learn to identify them and it will ease your fear of snakes. There are 4 major species with 3 subspecies of copper head and 10 subspecies of rattle snake in all 15 different venomous snakes to identify, here is a good list google them for pictures, http://www.texassnakes.net/picturesvenomous.html

You don't have to worry about snakes poking their heads up through scupper holes in the everglades.

Bert, That is very informative but I think that I will stick with my current approach to snakes and just consider them all dangerous. After all I am sure that there are countless numbers of people who have injured themselves trying to get away from perfectly "safe" / non-lethal snakes.
