Since 2003 I have owned 6 boats:

1.) 1963 Mark Twain 75 hp Johny ($600) - the interior was rotted out and I used to sit on a 5 gallon bucket, along with everyone else in the boat. The first time on the water was trully one of the proudest moments on the water(really).

2.) 1970 Mark Twain with a 120 hp mercruiser ($600) - This was a really pretty boat. The guy had just had the interior redone in its original colors. two months after owning it, I found out the transom was rotted out really really bad. Sold it for parts on eBay.

3.) 1983 Caddo (free) - This was given to me as a wedding present from one of my father-in-law's neighbors. it was just a boat and a trailer, no motor. I put a motor on it cleaned it up really nice and sold it for $2500, it was way to small for a family of 8.

4.) 1975 Mark Twain 160 hp Mercruiser ($1300) - This boat had just had the engine replaced by the owner, but it had no seats at all, except for a really ugly bench on the back. So I put in the interior from boat #2 and recovered the seating in the front, and it was an awesome family boat.

5.) 1984 16' Skeeter ($1500) - This was my first fishing boat and I loved it for about a month. But it soon became aparent that it was not big enough for the family to use. Plus it would beat me to death with any kind of a chop on the water. So I sold it after only having it 6 weeks.

6.) 1989 20' Kingfisher 200 hp Suzuki - Someone can look at this boat and say that it is ugly, as it has a golden colored motor hanging on the back. But it does everyting I need it to.

Sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to show how one mans trash is another mans treasure. Had I kept waiting for finances to work out so I could get just the right boat, I would probably still be waiting. Other than God and family, there is nothing I love more than being on the water. I may not look good on the water, but I am sure enjoying my self.

Are you my long-lost brother? If you looked at mine, you saw it isn't pretty, but it does what I want it to do.

If you want ugly boats you need to stir up the duck hunters. I would bet they win this one hands down. My first boat was a ~1970 16' fiberglass ?bomber style? bass boat (looked like a fat pirot) and was painted camo. Had a 1964-65 (and maybe other years as well)OMC 40 hp also camo. You could feel the hull flex through the floor when running. I acquired two complete spare motors to keep it going. The transom rotted out and I replaced it myself (I think I took 5 years off my life doing the fiberglass). I spent more time working on it that using it but I will never forget it and the times I had in it hunting and fishing. I'll try to find pics of it but I bet I can tell you every detail of it from memory.

Bastro,
Looking good so far, but I think the steering wheel would be better behind the windshield! laugh Keep us posted on progress.

I'm going to have to join one of those free photo posting web pages so that I can post a pic on this topic.

My boat, I bought for $200 from a guy in Terell. He was using it as a feed trough. It has two bilge pumps in it. One in the front and one in the back. I can't wait until the day that I can get me a "reel" boat. This one drives me nuts! hammer But I still catch fish smile
