Anyone been recently? Looking to go to a lake where all the Memorial day crowds are not able to go. Haven't been to Purtis in about 3 months so I wanted to see if anyone has been. Any info welcomed bit I'm not looking for spots baits and all that. Really just want to know if they are biting, or if I need to search elsewhere. Thanks.

No, it was honestly probably earlier than that. Fish were still in winter mode. I have had some decent days there. I'm planning on learning it better over the summer.

Last bump. Lake must be on fire or really bad.

Can't be on fire. Have you ever seen a lake that's on fire and someone not post fish pics on the TFF? No way you can get that many people on the same page and keep something on the down low.

Yeah your right. I haven't been on here long, but it doesn't seem a secret is ever kept.

Went to Purtis a couple of weeks ago and the bite was pretty slow. Only caught 4 fish in about 5 hours but had one that was pushing 10 lbs. on a jig that I caught off of a extended flat.

Yep I have caught nice ones, it's just hard to pattern them. Good job, a fish like that is worth the trip.

I have only had 1 really good day there since the carp ate all the grass. We caught about 30 fish from 3-7 pounds and could do no wrong that day. It's never happened again. Purtis used to be one of the best night lakes around for numbers of fish.

Yeah I never got to fish it when it was real good, but big ones are still caught out there fairly frequently so that keeps me trying.

In the 90's I fished it regularly. It was a fun lake and you could have it to yourself a lot of times during the week.

I have been there once since they decided to get rid of the grass, if the wind blows at all it's a muddy mess.

I caught some decent fish, but having to fish the timber on thecreek channels out on the middle of the lake was not as fun as it used it be with grass.

Man that was a fun frog lake this time of year, way back when.

Good Luck!

I started a thread a couple months back asking if it's still the "best little bass lake in TX". I read this on something from TPW. The thread went 3 pages and not one person said it was still that good. The reason I'm interested in it is that there are still a few decent reports and big fish are still caught. Lake is never crowded either. Last time I went on a Saturday we were the only ones on the lake.

They are trying to start grass to grow back, it's fenced in and showed to be growing the last time I was there, hope it takes off.

That would be nice. It could take a little while though.
