I'm going to hit Texoma for the first time in a long time, at least to fish for striper.

Can anyone give me general ideas on what techniques are working? What to throw? general areas? Not looking for extreme detail, but some tips to get me started this weekend.

I will be launching out of Cedar Mills. I know the lake pretty well, and I know its incredibly low right now.

Thanks for any help/advice!

People on here were very gracious to give me information when I requested it, so here is what i learned last weekend on my trip with my father. "...We hit the water by 6:15 and headed to Preston Point. Fished the north end of the point with no results (only a few hits), throwing big swim baits, crankbaits, etc... The wind was fine at this point so we started trolling thundersticks and umbrella rigs. The umbrella rigs beat the crankbaits by far. We headed West along the texas side from Preston Point and did pretty well. There were several other boats trolling with us. We caught 18 fish at about 10' - 12' in 20' feet of water. At 9:00 my fuel pump (that i just had serviced and got out of the shop on Thursday) went out so we had to call it a morning. It was pretty frustrating to drive all that way and only spend a couple hours on the water, but at least we caught some fish. The wind was really kicking up at about 9:00 anyhow so it was probably a sign that i needed to get off the lake. Thanks for all the help and info. I really do appreciate it."

Other Points:
Use Storm Thundersticks, Horesehead Jigs - 1 0z with a 6" curly tail grub, slabs (once you locate the fish).

Good Luck!

I am far from an expert, but 2 weeks ago I caught a few small striper south of cedar mills off the long points throwing an Alabama rig with 5" pearl yum money minnows on it. I saw lots of guide boats anchored around bait fishing, no idea if they were catching. I don't know Big Mineral well, so went back to the TX shoreline east of Mill Creek. Working east we had luck on the rocky points and good luck by the ledge running NE off North Island. Casting A-rigs and horse heads into 30-35 and bring it up the ledge to 20' worked for me.

I read some reports on six old geezer site that throwing chrome/blue pencil poppers in the morning was getting them .. my best guess is they went north out of cedar mills, but not 100% sure. Saw 2 posts talking about fish maybe more east also.

Another post said stay to the east side of the ramp at Cedar Mills.

-good luck.

Thanks for the information! That definitely gives me a starting point with some things to throw at them.

I don't have a dedicated alabama rig rod.

Would it be better to use a worm rod or a carolina rig rod for it?

No expert, but I didn't fish this week because my freezer is full of striper from texoma ( and it rained). Last week fishing was pretty decent by highport. Trolling Umbrella rigs worked best during the day while trolling square bill crank baits or flicker shad worked best as the sun went down on the points.

I guess you could cast all day as well but the fish are scattered and unlike LM Bass they do not stick to structure. Casting a heavy umbrella rig all day would not do my old shoulder issues any good. That said, this jet ski fisherman caught this monster LM Bass casting an umbrella rig on Ma Barker point.

John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

That's awesome! Gigemags05, we caught them trolling umbrella rigs with 3" Berkley PowerBait Pre-Rigged Swim Shad in a chartreuse. I'd imagine you might pick up bigger fish with 4" and 5" so next trip, ill be trying that.

thanks for the tips!

I've never used an alabama rig so I am excited to try it.
