I have used an egg sinker in a texas rig setup with a 4/0 hook with live or fresh dead shad. Never tried DOA, but I have seen other people on here talk about using them.

I was at Brauning last week, and got hits on a popping cork setup with a 12" leader and cut shad. You can have good luck getting shad with a casting net by the docks.

I guess your question is for info for bank fishing? If you were fishing from a boat, a down rigger would be a good option. And use a Tony Ancheta spoon in silver or gold color. Find the fish a fish a foot or two above the school of redfish. I lived in S.A. while stationed there in the military, and never fished from the shore or bank.

Reds will eat anything a bass will. I catch lots of reds while fishing the lower Sabine River for bass. They'll hit a Fat Free Shad, deep diving square bill crank baits, red rattle traps, red Academy CRS crankbaits,... Traditional Sabine Lake rig though is a Gulp bait (your choice) below a popping cork.

ended up going to Bruany instead. Caught a 29 inch red site casting with a 6 inh plastic worm. Also caught 3 other reds and 4 trippers all in the same area site casting each time. what fun. The other guy with me kept getting his line snapped. I asked him what was his line. he told 6 lb. he changed out poles using 12 lb. red cajun and started bring in fish.
