I've got the day off tomorrow and was planning on fishing Texoma. Now, Wunderground is forecasting 10-20 mph North Wind. I've got a 19ft champion bass boat with 200hp. Don't want to drive the 80 miles to only turn around and go home. Are these conditions still fishable in any areas of the lake?

Thanks,
Steve

Fishable is very subjective .. what kind of fishing, for what species ?

For me it is the waves that build up over a long stretch that makes it un-safe & un-fishable. So if you can find shoreline to hide from the wind, my opinion is that Texoma is more fishable than other lakes in strong wind. The entire Channel in front of Mill Creek to Highport should be fishable. Safe bet is to put in at Highport.

Not sure how fishing will be after this rain or how much fun if you are trying to Bass fish the TX shoreline with a strong north wind. How good are you with your trolling motor smile For striper you could easily troll that whole area.

I have been caught up there at Highport in Strong North wind, I fished because I was already up on a multi-day trip. It was better than not fishing smile .. Not sure I would drive up knowing the forecast though.

Good Luck and have a safe trip if you do go.

Exactly-Texoma has a bunch of areas that won't wear you out-I've got areas I fish in a
north wind, areas in a south wind, etc. 10-20 isn't bad.

Only problem is, when they say 10-20 a lot of times it ends up being 20-30. smile

Or you could drive to PK or Granbury.
Fishing is good at both and you can always find a place to fish for something out of the wind.
If you have a choice we're to fish when it's windy then skip the cereal bowels like Tawakoni, and Buchanan.
Go to a lake that has some twist and turns to it so you can get out of the wind.

Pk was a bindy witch on Sunday but we still managed to catch some fish and keep everybody dry. We could have caught more if we were willing to get soaking wet and ride through the rough stuff.

Your going to be limited no matter were you go with 25mph winds.

+1. A lot of times the wind will lay down in the morning or late in the day. Sunday was really windy, but if you had got up at sunrise you would of been fine until around 9:30am.

Called off my trip and decided to respool reels and organize tackle instead. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Steve: You can almost always fish Texoma due to the layout of the lake. You have to check the wind THE DAY YOU ARE GOING. The forecasts nowdays are useless. Stay on the side the wind is coming from. Even with a high wind it will be OK there even it it's white caps and high surf on the other side.

Wind from the North - Oklahoma side Buncombe creek, Caney Creek or Solder Creek.
Wind from the south - Texas Side
Wind from the east - Dam, Platter flats, Burns Run Johnson Creek or Newberry creek
Wind from the west - Catfish bay, texoma state park or preston bend

I can fish in pretty bad winds but try to avoid winds over 20 MPH due to the gusts and a 20 MPH forecast at Denison is 30 MPH on the lake. I guarantee your boat will be drier than mine. No way you should be staying home when you want to fish.

Now Tawokoni or Lewisville...

That's what I told him when we started fishing this spring. You can't argue with success, he's put a ton of nice fish in that little boat. thumb
