Hello fellow carpers. I am looking at investing in some new carp gear in the coming months, and I would like some input. What is your opinion of the saxon rods and reels? I'm looking to get 3-4 3.5 tc rods in the near future and these have caught my eye. What other rods would you recommend in 3.5 tc? I'd like to keep it under $200 a rod if possible.

the only thing i dont like about them is they dont have 50mm rings, chris harrington had them and they felt like a limp noodle but would cast a mile and play fish well.

right now you can get the huxley rods for 70 a piece and there 13'. i hear there pretty good rods.

I've seen both in action. I heard a lot more great reviews on the Saxon rods then the huxleys.
Big carp tackle I think is still having a special on saxons buy 2 get 1 free

I got chub snooper rods at 3.5 TC and they are great. $99 a rod and they cast far, feel great and look amazing.

Saxons are a dressed up $15 Chinese import carp rod, they are about as low quality as you can get. They have a pretty reel seat(that doesn't fit daiwa reels by the way, too narrow), some decent fuji knock off guides, that butt cap thing, but the rest of the rod is built on a super cheap blank. They can't do distance at all, I could get mine to go about 105 yards then they would just flat out quit, no matter how hard I chucked a lead. Playing fish is nice with them but once you hook into something decent they have absolutely no power to turn anything, I felt undergunned so many times with them it was terrible. They aren't worth buying, even if you can get them for buy one get one free, they are overcharged garbage.

As mentioned already huxleys are on sale for really cheap and they are awesome rods, very underrated for what you are getting. The thirteens can get some insane distance and have a really soft tip for a 3.5TC. I've managed over 170 yards with a 13', the only thing i've been able to beat them with are my free spirits. The twelves are a bit more dead in the tip(think marker or spod rod dead, not much flex), but if you use mono it makes up for the lack of flex with fish playing. I recently picked up two sets of 13' huxleys as some spare guiding rods for the deal they are going for now which is about as good a deal as you can get anywhere. Get them directly through Gil.

Soniks aren't bad, they have recently gotten a lot better and the reels don't have bad reviews. They would be a good alternative as well.

Austin what kind of line do you use to get such distance? And are the Huxleys good with braid?

I usually use either powerpro or sufix 832. 832 is a lot smoother and casts a lot better but it wears out twice as quickly, it'll go white and start to float after a while. Both are really good lines. I usually use 30lb in both with a good amount of mono backing underneath.

The 13's are fantastic with braid, the soft tip is great. The 12's aren't as good with braid because the tip is a bit stiffer, but they still work well if you play the drag well or use a shock leader

Wow that the worst I heard about the saxons as many anglers that used them I never heard such a bad review....
How are the reel seats on the Huxleys as I know that's the most common bad review i hear about them. Many have had to get them serviced by rod builders others have paid the fee to get them replaced thru the dealer.
Either way get whatever you feel more comfortable with maybe a fish in you can ask other anglers if you can test out there rods. I've tested a couple I really like the way the sonics feel
