Will never understand people like this. Apparently from the article these guys didn't need the money. So if its not for the money, then why? Why ruin your reputation? I certainly wouldn't be doing any kind of business with these people after something like this. If you can't trust them in a small tournament, how can you trust doing business with them?
I'm a very poor (skill wise) recreational fisherman. If I had the time and a boat I would love to join a club and fish a few tournaments. It certainly wouldn't be for the money, it would be for the experience. I enjoy competition, even knowing I'd probably finish in the bottom 10% on most weekends.
Used to fish all year in Louisiana and would catch average to below average bags most trips. We'd target crappie and have mixed results. But every year we'd fish a crappie tournament and finish in the top 10, with 4th being our best finish out of about 75 boats. We'd never catch them during practice, but on tournament day we'd weigh in a limit of 20 fish every year. I think its just a different mind set on tournament day. You force yourself to fish harder, rather than packing up and leaving you try different techniques etc.
I think money is the last reason I have ever fished in a tournament.
Guessing they were looking for attention and recognition. Well I guess they got it!

In addition, They should make them pay back double the entry fee to each person in every pot tournament on Guntersville that they participated in wether they the won or not.

They need to make cheating a state jail felony, with mandantory jail time. Make them lose everything, job, family, whatever they love so much they will cheat.
Snowflakes and entitled brats will be the doom of America!

They need to make cheating a state jail felony, with mandantory jail time. Make them lose everything, job, family, whatever they love so much they will cheat. The law against fishing tournament fraud has been on the books in Texas since 1985, but it was expanded last year to make altering the length or weight of a fish a violation and to include tournaments for saltwater fish, which are some of the biggest in the state. Violations at small tournaments are Class A misdemeanors, but offenses committed at tournaments with prizes worth $10,000 or more are third-degree felonies, punishable by up to 10 years in state prison and a maximum fine of $10,000. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/02/us/texas-fishing-tournaments-lure-competitors-and-fraud.html

It's a dang shame to see people like this, but again, it's great to see the exposure these low life's get on social media! Maybe and hopefully it will curve the thoughts of guys who do and might cheat in the future...

Partner and I saw a couple of scumbags doing about 37 years ago in a tournament on Indian Lake in Ohio. Reported it to the tournament director and he says oh this is just a merchandise tournament so no big deal. Only time I ever got DQed but I told the fool my opinion which wasn't too nice and definitely not PC. Didn't fish another tournament in Ohio again and sure managed to give them a lot of bad publicity.
