i rember when i was about 11 or so my friends and i would go to this creek down the road from my house an would spend all day poking around in the deep holes that went back up in the banks. We'd catch 2 or 3 a day all summer long, they were about the size of a trash can lid. We never thought about how mean they were untill you'd mess with one enough to bite a broom stick in half. Their heads were about the size of softballs, haha. Glad i grew out of the creek and in to the lake.

I had an experience with those ugly creatures as well. My buddies and I made our way to fork to fish the day 3 years ago, our first time there, to fish from the bank. Just before dark, i was wacky wormin, and let the worm sit for 30 sec or so and my line started to slowly run ...I set the hook and no give, it just kept stripin drag slowly for a min or so then i turned it. By this time one of my buddies made his way over to me to watch me land the huge fish...or so i thought at the time. To make a long story short, I was pretty disapointed when i saw it was a turtle about 20-25 pounds my first time to fork, i thought i'd hooked up with a fish of a life time we all got a good laugh though scott

They live 80-100+ years...or until some coonass catches it and eats it. I have had a common snapper in a tank in my living room since 1994. his shell is as big around as a dinner plate now. He is alot of fun to watch. Especially when a live crawfish is in his tank. He has 3 minnows in his tank now. They are what was left of 3 dozen that I put in there back in October of last year... I think he is friends with them...he ate the other 33 or so in about a week.

The biggest alligator snapper I have ever seen was caught out of the Red River. They pulled it out of the river in a huge fishing net. My dad and I went by to see it a couple times...I don't know how much it weighed, but it filled up the entire bottom of the dumpster they were keeping it in!! You should start a Shar-A-Turtle-Lunker program! You could have had the first entry.
