Hey guys,

I made a post about 4 months ago when I found out I would be getting stationed in Wichita Falls. I know the current situation with the drought is horrible but I figured I would check in again as I am headed out there in 2 weeks for the move. What would be my closest fishable lakes? I have a 18' bass boat. Thanks for the input everyone, look forward to catchin some Texas bass, even if I have to drive a little ways.

Lake Lawtonka and Elmer Thomas in Lawton OKlahoma. They still have useable ramps and levels are still ok.

+1 I am stationed at Altus AFB, OK not far away and these are two good fishing lakes. Elmer Thomas is a real clear lake and Lawtonka has some good fish in it. Shoot me a PM and maybe I can help out

Welcome to the area. For bass fishing near Wichita Falls you are going to have to travel a little. Lakes within a hour in Texas are Amon G. Carter in Bowie, Lost Creek and Jacksboro City lake in Jacksboro, and Lake Graham, Graham. Now there are some good lakes under 2 hours from town and they are Possum Kingdom, Hubbard Creek, Ray Roberts, Texoma, Lewisville, Bridgeport and Eagle Mountain. Each provides its own challenge. If you need more help contact the TPWD at Wichita Falls Inland Fisheries on Facebook. They can answer questions about ramps and fish populations of most of these lakes. Good luck and let me know if you need any more help.

Sounds like there's still some hope! Thanks for all the input. Can't wait to wet a line out there. Good luck.

Ramps are the problem. Most are unuseable, some maybe with 4 wheel drive. Check before you go!

Amon Carter and Possum Kingdom. I broke my PB at Possum kingdom yesterday with a 7.07 and my 17 year old son just broke his PB literally 20 minutes ago at Amon Carter with a 9.50. Come on weekend!

Arrowhead and Kickapoo are about dry aren't they?

Bridgeport, Texoma, Ray Roberts are all low but you can still get a boat in.

Welcome to the area. Hook up with JC once you get to SAFB.

Hope to see ya on the water.
