there is no such thing as a poisonous snake. you could eat any snake and they will not harm you. there is only venomous snakes. and that one my friend is not a venomous snake.

You can't tell if a snake is venomous by the head, only sure way is to look at it's underbelly

Free rat/mice extermination.

There are only a few venomous snakes in Texas.

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/kids/wild_things/wildlife/snakes.phtml

It doesn't hurt to educate yourself and be informed.

There are also protected species. Kill the wrong one and you might be selling your boat to pay the fine.

Those fines are not like keeping a couple of crappie over your limit. Up to a year in jail and $50,000 fine.

Happy Hunting smile

I would call that a long snake! I jump over those on a trail I run regularly in the summer. They kinda freak people out but I think they are fairly docile.

See you on the lake and have a great day!

If it's in my yard where my 5 year old plays I don't give a rats arse what it is. It can still bite and will still be dead if I see it. I saw my grandpa get bit by a rat snake while we were getting eggs out of a chicken coop. So whoever says they don't strike and are harmless/dosile I don't believe it as I've seen harmless snakes strike first hand. I'm not taking a child to the er because I didn't want to hurt a snake. Fangs in you are still going to hurt.

Rat Snakes do not have fangs. We used to catch them when I was younger. The bite is like getting pricked with a bunch of needles... Scares you more than it hurts.

some big pansy's on here. why kill a snake even if its harmless. I say do some quick research and study the snakes we have in Texas. that will show you what is poisonous and what is not. this isn't Madagascar where there are hundred's of different poisonous snakes. SMH de

The only venomous snake you could possibly mistake that common snake for is a cotton mouth / water moccasin. Copper heads are almost never that dark so these are the following ways you can identify a moccasin.

1. Very arrow shaped head.
2. Eye pupil is not round but like a cat
3. Yellow tip of the tail.
6. Musty stink in the air.
7. If mouth is open, the cotton nickname will make sense.
8. Usually moccasin's are not very long and really fat.

I live near the lake so have gotten pretty good at this now, most snakes I see are something called a yellow belly racer, they are crazy fast.

It never fails to amaze me that so many of you big bad outdoors-men turn into squeamish little girls with a kill 'em all agenda when it comes to snakes.

A little bit of education and precaution are all it takes. Live and let live... Conservation is supposed to be the outdoors-man's credo is it not? then why would you wantonly kill everything from a particular animal order just because "They look evil" or "I don't know anything about 'em so I kill 'em all".

It takes little time and effort and you can find tons of resources outlining the dangerous and not dangerous snakes of Texas both online and in the library as well as in Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine and so many other resources. It never fails to dumbfound me that ourdoors-men, who will nail anyone whose stringer has one additional fish in a photo and no additional anglers immediately photo'd will just completely go bat-spit crazy over ANY snake!

Do you know anyone who has had a real bad snake bite?

Sure do. One of son 's buddies was bitten. His leg swelled so bad they had to cut the slides or his skin would have torn. Took a year to get over.

Snakes make pretty boots!

I think it's a regular rat snake or standard water snake
