Truck got 18.75 mpg at the pump, not on the computer. Driving the truck with the cruise set on 68 most of the time. This truck has 700 miles on it after the trip so it is new. Sticker says 22 highway mpg, I don't think it will ever get 22 mpg at 70 mph.

I came from a 12 Duramax Z71 4x4 so comparing power would not be fair. Yes the Duramax would get 19-20 on the highway if there was no regeneration of the DPF figured in, with regen the mileage would drop to 17.5 on the hwy. When I factored in the cost of diesel, diesel piss, higher oil change cost, higher fuel filter cost it just didn't make sense to run up and down the highway and pull the boat on weekends with it. Not to mention the payment on my truck went down $200

I love the look of the new truck, it is quiet as hell, rides better than most cars and pulls my Z520 pretty good. Time will tell on the fuel mileage. I haven't made a long trip with the boat yet to see what mpg's are.

I would suspect that changing to taller tires/leveling kit will affect the mpg's as the aerodynamics are changed. The MPG's listed on just about any vehicle today are tested by the EPA and they are not driving at the typical highway speeds 70-80 that we normally drive at so I would not plan on getting actual mpg's stated on window sticker.

Maybe she will loosen up and get a little better when she gets broken in.

the epa does their test at 55 mph on a banked track using cruise if equipped....every 5 mph over this you lose 1 mpg driving 70-75 loses you 3-4 mpg

Mine is an '11 year model with the AFM, It got mid 16's for the first couple tanks after about 5k miles it picked up to an average in the mid 18's back and forth to work. Best I have ever seen is 21 and at 42k miles ive had no problems and it still hits mid 18-19 back and forth to work when I drive it. It is a z71 crew cab with stock tires and 3.42 gears.

Update: I pulled a Phoenix 921 to Sam Rayburn a couple weeks ago, (7 hour trip). I got around 12 mpg. That was running 75-80 mph. It is quite a bit better at 60-65 but I don't really have the patience to drive it like that. I will say it pulls alot better than my older one did. You can't really tell the boat is back there except on the gas gauge.

Man those front bumpers are gawdy. what were the GM designers thinking? SISHANEUS is right on. 2 weeks ago I made Idabel in 2 hours from the Rockwall / Fate border but paid for it in MPGs. Running at 75 - 80 I dropped 2.5 from my normal commute speeds of 60-70.

I have mine 3 weeks now and the fuel mileage gets better and better. I came from a Tundra and the fuel economy is night and day. I pull a Ranger Z520 and it seems to tow like a beast. VERY comfortable inside when towing or now. Been pretty impressed with it.

Y'all must have a heavy foot. I got 23mpg cruising at 70mph with an 03 5.3l. Cai,superchips can tune and exhaust will open these engines up. My buddy just purchased a 14 gmc and he's getting 17 in town 20 highway.

Follow up. I am getting about 16 mpg back and forth to work. 23 mpg on the Hiway long trips. And, about 12 mpg pulling my ZX20 Skeeter loaded down way more than a boat should be. I can't complain.

Friend of mine bought one a couple months ago, with about 20k miles on it drove to his deer lease 200 miles one way. Drove there with a pallet (2000lbs) of feed in the bed and back home on same tank of fuel, checked with a calculator at the pump 19.8 mpg driving 70mph.

Lots of people are scared of the AFM. I know quite a few people that own 5.3's with AFM none have had a problem. I have talked to several people about it and the same thing kept coming up was people who had problems either didn't use an approved oil (dexos standard set by GM) or they were pushing the oil change interval. I was told to change at 5k miles and would never have a problem and haven't.
