Haven't heard much about Ray Hubbard and flatheads yet, have they started moving yet?? This time last year they were about to spawn and the run was almost over

We went out to ray hubbard saturday night and didnt catch a flathead. But at the same time there has been a couple caught at the same location we fished....All in all i think the water temp is still a little cool to have them moving really good. Thats just my opinion.

I mostly fish for blues, but want to get into some flats. I hear to use live perch or live large shad, is that right? I also have been told to drift 10 to 15 ft smooth sandy bottoms. Im new to this so any info would be great....thanks

I've always heard that LIVE bait is the key to flatheads... whether its perch, shad or goldfish. IMO keeping shad alive on the hook is next to impossible. I don't target flatheads hardly ever so I'm no expert.

I've also heard that they like running water... so on Hubbard I would try the far north end of the lake where its fed from lavon. I've had my best luck with blues up there too. But I haven't been there while the lake is this low so I don't know how good it will be right now.

Right about this time last year the flatheads were making their move cursing around eating, finding holes, and finding mates. They should be about to spawn In the main lake which means they will be holed up, BIG LIVE perch is the key with a loose drag want to let them run for a few sec

Out this way they're hitting fresh cut shad. Caught two on gizzard heads and another one on half a gizzard. Live bait hasn't seemed to work for me here. They're running pretty hard right now. I'm 95% CPR, but every once in a while I like to eat a fish. Never eaten yellow cat before so thought I'd give it a try tonight. It was DELICIOUS! Unfortunately the one I ate was full of eggs.

The way to think of it is like punch bait and blue cats, ya you'll catch some on it but you wouldn't target blue cats with punch bait, just like flatheads ya you'll catch em on cut bait but to strictly target them I'd say live perch or live mudcats

I can't count all the big flatheads I've caught in my life and almost all of them were caught on live perch. I did catch a 15 lber on rod and reel on a punch bait at night last year and that shocked me lol.
