So this year I decided to give senkos a shot. It has amazed me how the fish love those darn things. However, it seems that from the moment I see the line tick and I get the slack reeled out and set the hook the darn thing is either gone or it comes off fairly quickly. With that said I still get >50% of them hooked up but not near like I do with other plastics.

Heres the setup I am using. Curado reel, St. Croix triumph med hvy fast, 15lb P-Line CXX , hooks are either gamakatsu 4/0 offset EWG or a Trokar 5/0 offset EWG. I am rigging weightless Texas. Maybe just bad luck but im guessing technique. Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Consider using flouro instead of mono.

Less visible to the fish and less stretch than mono.

I can certainly do that. I have only used flouro for my movement baits so no experience with it on my worm type setup. I do tend to set the hook with the thunder, is it true you need to tone down the hookset some with flouro. Sorry for the noob question.

If you are not already, try setting the hook with a side sweeping motion instead of straight up like you would a regular T-Rig. Once someone showed me this my hook ups and landing percentage increased quite a bit.

I had an experience bass fishing on a river in OK with senkos, kept losing them on the hook set. Finally got really patient and waited for the thumps to come and go, then when the line started moving made the sideways hook set and never missed another one that day.

with Senkos you really have to "wait"a little longer to set the hook.
after the 'tick" figure out something to say that makes you wait 2-3 seconds and then set it, sweeping sideways with the Senko.
I was taught that last week at Falcon by Bassin Billy Tompkins and did not miss a hook set or a fish, once I realized it was a bite.

When I feel a bump, I take a breath to prepare myself to set the hook. Just before I set it I'll raise the rod tip to see if the fish is still there ( pressure) but only enough to check for pressure. Then I lower my rod- which provides a little bit of slack to set the hook. Then I set it by kicking the butt of my rod out from my belt buckle which snaps the rod tip back and over right shoulder. When I miss fish it's because I get too excited and set the hook wrecklessly at the moment the fish bites.

Use flouro on bottom baits mono for moving baits. I use a 3/0 or 4/0 hook when I get the tick I wait like I'm frog fishing then set the hook. Also bream/sunfish love senkos more than a power worm. It's the time of year where they could be messing with the bait.

Just ensure that the hook is point is exposed then skin hooked....if the hook is buried in the senko it will equal less hook ups.

Tried that a few times and every time the fish was deep gut hooked.
I use the Side setting motion also.

Use braid and not miss any more. Some other things can be going on. Are you sitting or standing? The lower you are to the water then braid becomes a must except for the close at hand fish beside the boat or kayak.

+1 could be bluegill. For tx rigs ill use a Trokar tk130 flipping hook. It's a straight shank hook and you will get more of the hook in the fishes mouth when they bite it. Use what ever line you want if they are biting it but I use flouro when fishing anything but top waters or on my flipping stick which is braid.

I only miss a lot when I use the 5/0 hooks. Don't know if they feel it or what. Stay with 3/0 or 4/0 . Seems they spit it quickly and dont go back to it. The fish worth catching will just be weight, no tick, tick, tick. Watch the line, and it it is heavy, give it a rip. I also side hook set, but from a bass buster I do fine with the upwards swing. Perch and dinks will be all over it, if you set the hook on everything, it will get expesive quick.

If you use floro the bait is going to sink faster and imo, you'll get less bites. Most of my bites on a weightless senko are from the slow fall. If you want the slow fall, you gotta use mono.
