I live in the DFW area and just got a Bass Raider 8', and I'm looking for places to take it out in the NE DFW area. Anyone have some advice? Not looking for honey holes or anything but a few places to get it wet and catch some bass.

Thanks!

About 1 1/2 - 2 hours east, and I could put you on several. I'm not familliar with the metromess, uh, I mean metroPLEX anymore. I've been gone for about 20 years.

I'm at Bethany and 75 in Allen. If the lake/pond is a good bass fishing lake I would be willing to travel 1 1/2 hours or so.

Mill Creek lake in Canton,TX is an awesome bass lake. Edgewood,TX and Grand Saline,TX both have small city lakes that produce nice bass as well. I've never caught anything HUGE out of the 2 city lakes, but caught several 3-4 pounders out of each. Lake Holbrook in Mineola,TX is a little farther, but it is a good BIG BASS producer. These are all fairly close to hwy 80, about 60-70 miles east of Dallas. I live within 15-20 minutes from all these I have listed, and fish them all in my pelican bass raider, and kayak. If you need more info, or want to get together, shoot me a PM with a contact number.

PS. I'm more of a catfish guy than anything, but I do a little bass fishing too.

I live out here in east Texas as well. I frequent Purtis Creek in my 2 man. Have caught tons of crappie, catfish, and black bass. I've been wanting to go check out Mill Creek and it looks like I will have to make my way out to Mineola sometime as well.

I am pickin up a 10ft prowler tonight, and plan to hit south lake in Farmersville with it. I did a ride out there Saturday to recon the lake, if you look on the map on google you'll see an abhorrent amount of lilly pads consume the lake in full bloom... right now it's just slop and some algae like most lakes and pods, pride picking for us to hit it. I saw 2 small 1-2 man boats on the water fishing and one more showed up with two teenagers unloading it as we mounted up to ride away.

We took the VERY long way to get there on the bikes as the purpose wasn't just getting there, but it's probably 30 minutes or less straight drive from you (I'm spring creek/75 in plano)

Feel free to message me if interested, I can always use fishing buddies, and I will be exploring a lot of skinny waters with my new toy.

On the far end of the spectrum for a 1.5hr drive radius, there are several nice small fishing lakes out west of Denton in the LBJ grasslands... Clear Lake, Black Creek, etc.

On the other hand, there are a good number of nice community lakes you can shore fish around here too, Bethany Lakes is right in your back yard and is a beautiful place to go fish close to home, if you like bass shoot for the front pond with the fountain facing Bethany next to the big recreation building, best luck is there usually, though I've caught nice bass form all of them.

There's also Bachman and Whiterock Lake that are both great for small boats, whiterock and South Lake in Farmersville have 10hp limits, no clue on bachman as I don't fish that one (yet) but the power limit on whiterock doesn't make it much more small boat friendly, though certainly no less... it can get rough on windy days for sure, it's still a 1200 acre lake.

I suggest looking at TPWD's community lakes listing and finding what is near and doing some googling. Pickens Lake is in Sherman area just north a bit, I've yet to have luck out there from the shore but haven't hit it or seen any boats out there, though I believe they are allowed.

ill be there Saturday. I'll be in the yellow float tube. It's getting really grassy and the pads are well on their way back. Good little lake with some big fish. Just gotta get through the dinks to get them. I catch my biggest fish there during the winter and during summer nights

Austin710,

Where are you located? I hear the crappie bite started up a couple weeks ago at Mill Creek in Canton. I'm gonna try to get me some of that this week.

@Togiak

I work til 1 Saturday, so if I make it out then it'll be through the afternoon and into the evening. You're welcome to join me on the buster if you want Sunday morning, looking like it will be an open seat. I'm ecstatic to fish this late as the pads blossom... frog and mice baits are some of my favorite baits to present and imitate for bass, and I love targeting vegetation. This place looks like paradise to me laugh Love at first sight on google maps satellite haha!

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I plan on trying South Lake here pretty soon. It sounds like there are quite a few people who fish it. I'm like Mulholland, I love throwing frogs and top waters. I'll let you guys know where I try next and let you know how the bite is.

If that doesn't work out I may share another hidden little gem near the area. But I hear great things out there, even if it is slightly more trafficked (well I saw 3 2man boats Saturday afternoon/evening and at least 1 guy on here goes too lol)

Any one know the water color on Purtis creek right now. I'll be taking the bass hound out there for Memorial Day weekend. Looking for some color tips or maybe a hot bait that works for bass out there. It's been about 6 years since I've been.
