Just be knowledgeable when buying scent that is marketed. Very little of it is 100% Minnow and Night Crawler Extract that is why I go with the Biochemist to make it.

May have been mentioned on here already. I don't think scents mean that you will necessarily get more bites, but I do think that if it is a good scent that the fish will hold onto it a little longer. I put crayfish scents on jigs, frog scents on frogs, sometimes shad scent on swim baits. I don't see more bites, the bite depends on so many other factors I think, but I do seem to get a little more time to set the hook.

I just started using scent- specifically Bang. Tried the pump stuff before but it just made a mess and got everywhere. The Bang is a spray so for me is really easy to use. I think my catch rate has gone up because of it- [probably due more to it covering up human scents than anything else but whatever works). If anything it eliminates one more excuse for me not catching fish! Because of that my confidence has gone up which is always a good thing. I have had a couple of bass absolutely attack a Fluke with the Bang on it- and I mean they destroyed it. I say go for it- for less than $10 it is a good investment.

When this topic started a few days ago, ya'll talked me into trying some Bass Pookee so I ordered some. Went out this morning and used it for the first time. I got out my Carolina rig and put some garlic pookee on my worm and I caught a 7-2. So, I can't say for sure that it helped but it definitely didn't hurt!

I experimented today with BANG crawfish scent on zoom plastics. Made no difference. Salt in the baits kept em hanging on regardless from what I could tell. I've been reading up on this topic a lot lately and seems the key is to mask bad scents from your hands, sunscreen, fuel, etc. Fishermen love the thought of spraying on and using magic scents smile Lot of money being made. Salt works. For baits that don't have salt or infused scent/flavor then probably not a bad idea to slap something on there.

They probably don't make much difference, but if they give some confidence then it has that kind of benefit. One down side is the time wasted messing with it when another cast could be made. Statistically, there are probably thousands caught without it to every one that is caught using it. I fished several times with a fellow that manufactured and sold a product to add to soft plastics. I purposely did not use his stuff to see if he really beat me that badly. I beat him every time without using his stuff.
