I was just talking with my cousin and he said that they couldn't find any live shrimp ... we're planning a trip on the 9th ..10.. and 11th on Mustang Island and was just wondering ....are we gonna have a hard time finding live shrimp ?? He said they couldn't even find dead shrimp at HEB ...told me I better buy it here in San Antonio cause they couldn't find it when they went couple of weeks ago .... any tips or info is appreciated .

I don't think there is a shortage, there maybe days in early spring the shrimp boats are not able to get out because of weather

We had a problem getting live shrimp all winter in the Port A area but as the temperatures rose so did the availability of shrimp. One of the bait store by the big bridge by Packery channel will surely have bait.

It's that time of year .. inconsistant weather patterns affect the shrimpers as well as the anglers.

That's the nature of the beast in Mother Nature right now.

don't like the huge shrimp - rather have the medium bait size. try marker 39.

You can always take them home and eat them if you don't use all of them.

keep in mind this time of year there are more shad/mullet/mud minnows in the bay systems than shrimp. Match the hatch for a better chance of catching fish.

I will be in Rockport in the middle of June. What about using a castnet for the shrimp? Don't know the area, but when I lived on the Crystal Coast of North Carolina I never bought shrimp. I would find moving water on a changing tide and would get all I needed. Does anybody catch their own, or is shrimping with a castnet tough in Rockport?
