Why belittle someone for "taking" a trophy fish?
I fish because I like to eat fish, I follow all the guidelines, pay all the fees, and practice MY RIGHT to keep MY FISH when I catch them if I so choose.

peta needs all the help they can get i guess.

You know, I'm not a carp fisherman or a gar fisherman, but I definitely respect those who are. They love catching those big, old monsters, take good care of them (better than most bass fishermen), and turn them loose to fight again. The amazing hypocrisy displayed in this thread is mind-boggling. rolleyes Most bass fishermen would bristle at the sight of someone killing a 12 pound bass, then throwing it back in the lake, as advocated by one genius in here, or simply tossing it on the shore, as advocated by another fellow Mensa member. What, exactly, makes our precious bass more important and more deserving of life than other fish? It has nothing to do with PETA, either, so that idiotic argument needs to stop now--do you release a bass because you are a member of that organization? It is simply a matter of some folks enjoying one species and others enjoying another. While bowhunting is completely legal (and, I'm sure, zip-tying a gar's mouth is NOT), who is to say that is SHOULD be? How long ago was it when we bassers kept everything we caught for the skillet? It seems that too many posters in here are completely insensitive to the affinity Lonestarcarper, Parkenstein, and others have for their quarry, and the jabs have gotten out of hand. It is a disgusting display, actually. frown Yes, it is your right, but it is wrong to throw it in the face of those who don't agree--try doing that by posting a thread in the Bass Fishing section about a family dinner featuring a tasty 10 pounder.

BTW, I did not read in the article just what became of the trophy gar. I hope it was put to good use--gar meat is actually better tasting than most freshwater fish in Texas, and that fish could certainly feed many people. It absolutely would be a shame if it was wasted--I would like to think it was not.

Just out of curiosity, what did you guys do with that fish, I sure some one some where would it it. May do what the guys did with the deer meat they don't want. I know the fish was probably old as dirt and I hate see all that meat go to waste. Hell I'd like a pair boots and a belt from her too.

Whats wrong with rooster fights?
Rooster fights are awesome! When I was 15-16 I used to drive 15 minutes into OK and watch them, pretty cool if you ask me. I never bet money but I got a kick out of that explosion smile

Your'e right Fishbrain,

I caught the biggest bass of my life 7.5 lbs from a small pound in May, but now she is apart of me, I love blackbass and like you I pay my fees, but I think these lakes are like huge refrigerator's awaiting my arival. I do catch and release of fish I don't want and the ones I do they get dropped off with the other kids at the pool.

Mr. Reed ,

That is just LoneStars tongue n cheek comment that when your good your good , and having met him and fished with him I can say with all honesty , he is good at what he does . In addition to his remarkable catches of various species of carp , he has caught more and larger catfish than most dedicated catfisherman will ever catch .

And from personal conversations with him , he does know how and was very good at bass fishing when he chose to spend time fishing for them . This is a guy that can tell you the history of a particular species of fish he is interested in throught the extensive research he does to gain the most knowledge he can to increase his success when he goes fishing .

And in addition to the research he does by reading all he can , he thinks nothing of dedicating a entire weekend fishing sometimes over 48 hours straight . So yes , the guy knows his stuff , just like the most dedicated bass fishing pro he goes full throttle leaving most of us in the dust .

In reality he is a real nice fellow and not a someone that comes off as a know it all , he shares what he has learned with anyone that will ask .

I hope this helps answer your question as you visit this site from the great state of Georgia. I am definitely going to give you the benifit of a doubt and assume you really wanted to know because you were curious, and not because you are dropping in to start a problem or cause trouble here .

Have a good day
