I'd buy new electronics......HB 899CI SI. Going to run about $1,250 with map card. Forget about lowrance, they don't offer a SI in that price range.

Definitely electronics first. Here is a link for a good starter trolling motor package cheap. http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/5094678/Searchpage/1/Main/416091/Words/trolling+motor/Search/true/Re:_Minn_Kota_Trolling_motor_a#Post5094678

The bigger the screen the better!!!!!!!! Might want to check into getting a used unit and be able to get a larger screen for your $. Just sayin. I have a Lowrance HDS 8 with insight (came on my boat) LOVE IT!, but wish I could get a 10 or 12

Be careful buying used electronics. Those screens don't last forever and the motherboard components and buttons also have a finite life span.
Unless the used electronics were selling for 25%-30% of new I would not touch them. And even then you are taking a big chance buying them.
You notice that when Cabela sells their returned electronics in the Bargain Cave they sell them as-is. There is a reason for that.

Keep an eye on the classifieds for a trolling motor. Good deals are on there all the time. With your size boat it wouldn't be wise to go below a 70 lb thrust tm. With a healthy set of eyes I do pretty good with my humminbird 798, but a larger screen makes things easier to see. You cant go wrong with either depth finder.

I've bought used electronics and so far so good. I wouldn't pay close to retail though just because of the risk

Here's another suggestion. First call David at shut-up-and-fish. Second, go with electronics Third, check out the RayMarine unit with chirp and downview! From what I've seen this is a super new model that is going to really take off as more people learn how good it is.

Be sure to check Cabala's bargin barn on line lots of great deals there So electronics it is. Suggestions for which ones? Be careful. Many of these are returns, sold at 25% off MSRP, AS-IS. So once you buy it, it belongs to you. Better to pay shut-up-and-fish a little more and get one that has the guarantee on it. Just my humble opinion, of course.
