My neighbor told me heis thinking about cleaning his back yard. He has a boat that I have wanted. I don't think he has a title for anything and the trailer is homemade. How hard is it to get titles for the boat and motor. Is it worth the hassle or should I just forget about it. I know nothing is stolen or anything like that. Thanks

I believe if you posted this on boat and motor section you will get more responses. I am not familiar as to how to go about this. I'm sure those people on boat/motor will be glad to assist you. Good luck

You can go online to TPWD web site and look under forms for Title and Registration. There it will tell you what forms you have to fill out for boat and motor title. Under law in Texas both boat and motor has to be titled. Fill out proper forms, send them in with your fee for titling, then as always will take awhile for them to issue you titles to both. Original owner will have to sign these forms for transfer. Also there is a form for ownership if you want to put your spouse on the titles. That form has to be notarized by a person that can do that. If you have any other questions send me a PM.

Good friend of mine just did this to a boat his father gave him years ago. He went thru hell and back ! Said they came out and took pictures, and said it was stolen, and it was not ! Just because he painted the trailer. It took him 3 months of BS just to prove it was his dads.
May your wiener schnitzel always stay above your lederhosein.

If the lost titles where in his name and he's willing to do some paperwork it's doable if not good luck! I wouldn't fork over any cash until those titles where in my hands.

In Oklahoma it will only cost you around $350 to pay someone else to do it for you. Not sure if there is a service for that in TX.

If he had the titles at one time he can apply for a lost title

If he had the titles in his name, then he can apply for a lost title, receive and then transfer the title to your name. Do not pay for anything until you receive the title and match it to the boat VIN. The are several boats for sale on craigslist without titles because the buyers gave up on the process. Here is a link to the forms. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/boat/forms/

Yeah he can do lost title or you can do a bonded title. There are topics about this in the boats a motors section.

Does the boat have registration numbers on it? If so, you can go to the TPWD Website and find out who's name it is titled under.
If you run into trouble, shoot me a PM. I've done this a couple of times. It's not difficult, just takes some time. It can be done, though.

You can put the TX #'s in on the TXPW website and it will tell you who the owner is listed as, if it has TX #'s of course. You can do this for any boat BTW.
Catch and release or Catch and grease......u decide
