Just sold my Basscat P2, reducing the temptation to go fast do to recovery from lower back surgery.

So its a new 10 foot BusterBoat rigged with a 5 hp gas motor and 40# trolling, lowrance elite 5 hdi and micro power pole, and trailer.

versus

2000 Champion 171dc with a rebuilt motor, older electronics and 12v trolling motor. ($2,200.00 more than the Buster Boat)will most like put a new 115 optimax on it, and upgrade electronics and trolling motor.

I cannot decide if I want to go back to my "first boat" or "second boat".
I'll keep this for about 18 months and then get back into a P2 or Cougar.

I don't see how you could be happy in a 10' boat. I'd go with the Champion.

did you sell the p2 to rid yourself of a boat payment? if the p2 was paid for it sounds like you should have just kept it if you are now looking at another glass boat.

I'm confident I would spend the extra cash on the champion.

I assumed a couple things when I said that. Where do you plan on fishing?

A lot depends on where you fish, how windy it is etc.

Totally depends on what you want to do. I'm fishing from an 8-footer with a 30 lb troller and a cheap H'bird up front. It sure doesn't have the mobility of the Hydrasport I sold, but it made me learn the waters I fish. For example - when I launch at Ray Roberts' Buck Creek, I'm pretty much limited to Buck Creek - but I learned that arm of the lake far more than I would have in the big boat. I've also caught a ton more bass from the little one. On the other hand, I miss fishing tournaments. Go with whichever option fits your desires better. Oh - and I hope your back gets better soon.

I only made two payments on the boat. one on the day I ordered it, and the other on the day I brought it home from Rockwall Marine.

My 10 year old son, who goes fishes with me about 5 times a year due to his soccer, basketball and baseball schedule, wanted to know where he would sleep when he went night fishing with me. So I started to look around for something small, slower and comfortable. I ran a small champion from 95 to 04, and it fits the bill.

I would fish the BB on all the normal north and east Texas lakes, but i'll pick my ramps wisely.

If your going to eventually buy a p2 again you want to think about the resell of the champion vs the BB. I'd go with the champion because I think it would sell faster and give the best fishing experience of the two. My 2 cent smile
