There are some good fish in there if you can put up with the wasps!

Wasps are gone. I'm not a big fan of that lake myself but a buddy of mine loves it and talked me into going with him last week, I saw 1 wasp in 7 hours and no a single nest. They sprayed them apparently.

I'm interested in this thread too. Over the summer I am taking about 5 trips to go stay in east Texas to visit family and fish. 2-3 day trips only. I have the lakes I want to go to, but there is room for a lot more so I may have to give this lake a try.

To answer your question from the standpoint of someone who has never been to the lake I can tell you what I have heard so far.

When it opened people pulled some nice double digits out including Bill Wilcox on a Honeyhole if I remember right. It was on fire. After the newness of the lake started to wear off it seemed like the fishing got tougher. I heard a bout a fish kill, but I think it was small from what I heard and did not effect the lake much. It seems you just don't hear about it as much as you should with the lake producing so many big fish to start with. Just my opinion. As of now, people I see on here and people I have talked to either love the lake or hate the lake. I would give it a try though. It looks awesome in pictures. Tons of cover. I'm glad to hear they got rid of the wasp. I hate those things.

Its a good lake but until some of the cover disappears you have to do your homework. At least the grass isn't as thick

I spent 2 days fishing there last week. Beautiful lake. Lots of cover. Lots of trees falling, so be careful what you bump. Take extra shear pins for your trolling motor. No wasps. First day I caught a 5# first cast???ended up with maybe 35 between 2-6 lbs. next day the fish shut off...caught maybe 10 all day no size. Game wardens were there pushing over dangerous trees with an airboat. I I enjoyed my trip. Oh and be prepared to get hung up/break off a lot.

We've been there but I keep wondering: is it NUH-KO-NICH or NAH-KO-NICH?

Even living here, I hear it pronounced differently. This lake has been in the planning stage here for about 50 years and I have always pronounced it NA-CO-NEECH. Who knows, but it is just another good little lake around this area.

Another good bass lake not to far from Naconiche is Pinkston. It's pretty much been forgotten but it still produces big fish. It's just west of Center, Tx.

It would be nice if the City of Center would do some improvements to the road in and to the boat ramps. I don't know about the east ramp but the west ramp is a dirt trail with a dirt launch. The city of Lufkin is supposed to finally do major improvements to the road and launch at Kurth lake. Yea!

The rough road at pinkston keeps people out which is a blessing really. Kurth? Have you been lately? In Feb the algae and scum was so thick from the surface down to 25ft of water it looked like you could walk across it. Tpw told me they were keeping their fingers crossed it wouldn't get worse and kill all the grass. You can thank lufkin for pumping in that nasty river water for that.
