Unfortunately, the battle was decently long, and it wasn't until it was almost over that one of the guys started snapping pics."

you ought to see what a donkey/burro will do to a coyote...

and seeing as how a mule is a cross between a horse and a donkey that makes sense that a mule would be aggressive like that but still rare to see..

scroll all the way down this page and you will see this Mule killing the poor defenseless Mountain lion haha. It is pretty amazing.

I've seen those before. I really don't think that mule killed that mountain lion. There's too many things about the pictures that don't look right. I think someone killed it, then the mule got a hold of it somehow. I don't doubt that a mule can do that, but I don't think that is the case here.
