so i usually fish in galveston and port A when i get the chance to make it to the salt. But this memorial wknd my wife, 5yo and I are trying sergeant to get away from the crowds and have some family time. Ill have my kayaks with me and ill be on the beach and the ICW. never been around that area before and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers or maybe a fishing report? or anything for that matter. ill be hitting the marsh early before they wake up and spend time on the beach during the day. at night ill make some trips and also fish the green lights on my dock. should i stock up on certain baits in bay city or are there good places there? i usually fish a lot of topwater, various jigs, pippin cork, and beastie buggs. all help or suggestions are MUCH appreciated. plus I'm trying to get my wife on some decent fish so maybe she will start fishing with me and use the kayak I bought "her". Thanks guys and gals!

I grew up fishing in Sargent, my family had a place down on Caney Creek. If you have your yaks drive down the Sargent Beach and launch at Mitchell's Cut. Mitchell's Cut is not a secret. There will be tons of boats and bankers in the area, but if you launch your yaks and hit the bay you should be able to leave the crowds behind. I really like the North shoreline in that area it produces lot of reds, flounder, and specks. I like to throw rootbeer/chart colored paddle tail swimbaits on a 1/8 oz. jighead. You can catch fish on gulp shrimp, live shrimp, finger mullet, mud minnows, cracked crab under a popping cork if you don't have any luck chunking plastics.
