I love mine at the bow, I have hds 8 gen 2 on dash and it has good as a picture as the hds 8. I also don't like that it takes along time to come on, I contacted lowrance and they said its ok to just leave on all day when pulling trolling motor up to run. problem solved. the hds is easier to operate because it has a exit button, HDI don't have a exit button and can get confusing on how to exit some screens

I put mine in Standby when the TM is out of the water. Quick and easy!

I have the Elite-7 HDI at the front as well and it works out great for me. I use my HDS at the console for side imaging but I've never really had a need for it at the bow. I haven't had any problems with my unit and I bought it when they came out last year. Also, look at the transducer shield and saver made for this unit. It makes it a breeze to install the transducer on the TM.

Thanks SO much fellas!! It's settled... Going with the HDS-9 Touch along with the Mark-5x it comes with at the console and an Elite-7 HDI up front linked with the Nmea 2000 and I'll be set!! This is what's cool about the forum! I sure appreciate the insight guys!

I'd upgrade the mark 5 to and hds 5 In the console. So much more you could do then.

The 5x will just be wasting space more or less

Anyone here have had the interference on the screen with the puck mounted on the Trolling motor? different batteries and all.

if so did you do the ground the trolling motor trick to fix the interference? Did it work?
