The big bass are almost always under the school of fish, they a have a free buffet, not only are they feeding on the injured shad falling to the bottom, but they are also feeding on the yellow bass, and sand bass, it's a easy target, try to match the hatch and get that bait to the very bottom of the school and hang on.

Rayburn LMG BIG Bass do NOT typically cruise with Spot Schoolies. Yes, on some lakes (like Amistad they will!) but from my experience on Rayburn they typically don't hang with the schoolies. There are times when deep water Spots/Kentuckies will attract the BIG Bass but that will depend on their daily schedule when they move up to feed on the "Little Scoobie Snacks" and that is usually on ledges or brushpiles. And even more so the later it gets in a Summer Pattern.

We had the same issue, I tried upsizing my flukes and even threw large swimbaits. We just couldn't get the bigger bite. We did find a few 2 pound LMB mixed in with the Kentucky's but no bigger fish. What was crazy was how many schools we found, we got on fish everywhere we went. We pulled up on a brushpile right on the edge of a big drop from 24-35', it even had rock around it also. It looked as good as it gets. It was still just packed with Kentucky's.

Every day and every school will be different. In that situation, I would have thrown a 3/4 oz football jig and stroked it. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer... All you can do is try. But, in past experiences, if I couldn't get the big spoons (6") to the bottom, the jigs would work.

I think the big girls at lake alan Henry are feeding on the 8" spots. maybe change your approach and mimic the spots and hope a big girl will go for a green lure...

I think the true giants at AH are feeding on smaller spots and the gizzard shad out in the middle of the lake that are too big for spots to eat. I think that is what makes these fish suspend out in really deep water most of the year, and why we don't catch them very often other than in the Spring.
