I meant to build these a long time ago. I finally got around to it. I ran one of these off of a 9 volt battery for 3 hours and it showed no signs of going dim. I can't wait to hammer some white bass.

Any info on how you built them? Material?

I ordered three 16 foot led strips from superbrightled.com They have an adhesive backing strip. I wound the led strip around a 3/4 diameter piece of PVC pipe 4 foot long. I filled the alst foot of pvc pipe with melted lead weights. (I don't recommend this by the way, it was a pain in the arse dealing with the hot lead and melting plastic). Once the led light strip was wrapped around the now cool to the touch PVC pipe I taped the strip to the pvc pipe on both ends. For $4.50 I bought a flourescent light bulb protector from home depot. I used an 1.25 pvc cap on one end and a drilled a hole for the wires on the other end. Ran the wires through and soldered them. I then siliconed that cap in place also. Done! We built 3 in less than 3 hours. We used 33 feet of 18 ga speaker wire and 33 feet of para cord. That way you are not relying on the little wires to be tied to the boat rails and supporting the lights.

Well thank you. Had I mapped out the materials a little better I could have had the cost right at $20 per each light.

what lights did you use? the waterproof ones? what wattage?

I went with these right here. Waterproof but I also made the tube water proof as well. I just couldn't see water getting in there as a good thing. This company was lighting fast on their shipping. Don't freak out when you open it and see a red,blue,green,black and red wire. The black is the ground and the others repreent the color you choose. I just cut off the plug ins end and soldered 18 ga speaker wire to the green and black wires.

Wait a minute I sent you supernight led not superbright led. Now I can remember but you get the idea. I am sure mine came from super bright as 3 of them were $45 to my door.

the florescent bulb protector will crack and bust up in no time.....If you can find clear PVC us it instead of the bulb protector

We love going after white bass with the green lights. I tried them wednesday night and the lights worked great. I am going to switch over to clear PVC. I can see the clear flourescent tube protectors are simply too delicate to handle what I am going to put them through. The nite bite was not there the other night but the day time trolling was pretty hot if you got the right spot.
