I took my yak out to Cottonwood Lake on Saturday and got into the crappie big time. I was out a total of 3 hours or so and caught 15 give or take. Most of them were in the 8"-10" range but I did keep 3 that were in the 12"-14" range. A guy fishing from a bass buster was hauling them in every third or fourth cast and when I left he had 8 or 10 in his basket. They were all caught in the top 2 ft. of water on a yellow jig but my fish finder was showing them stacked like cord wood in the center of the lake. Once I finally figured out what bait to use and the retrieve speed they were really easy to catch. If I had not got a call from my wife with dinner instructions I would have caught a bunch more. I can't wait to get back out there after work one night later this week.

Cottonwood is a good lake. How was the water level? Not good, Not good at all. I have pics from when I was out there last, I'd be happy to text them. I'd say about 20 feet low.

The deepest water I found out there was 5 feet according to my fish finder. It is way low and desperately needs rain but what body of water in this part of the country doesn't right now? If you go on across to Little Cottonwood there really is no cell signal. Hopefully I can get out there Friday or Saturday and try my luck again.
