Good gracious. TGriffin, I'm glad you and your family are ok.
And this should be a very real reminder of how things can go wrong in a hurry on the lake.
This should probably be a new thread.

It definitely seems like you are lucky to be alive after that one! Glad to hear nobody was seriously injured.

I know the turn you are talking about. We ran that boat lane Friday. Plain and simple, the other boater was going way too fast to make that corner. You're all lucky that he didn't kill someone.

The boat lane at Pines is only 50 feet wide, probably less in places. When you have two boats passing each other the math is fairly simple. The guy running closest to the poles has about ten feet of clearance on either side, with a 16-18 inch pole that would destroy his boat on his starboard side and a couple thousand pounds of fiberglass speeding directly toward him on the port side.

If either or both boats are running wide open reaction time is almost zero. If anything goes wrong, anything at all, someone is likely to get badly hurt or killed. Trying to take one of those 90 degree turns at anything near WOT, especially with another boat approaching from the opposite direction, is downright stupid. Not to mention dangerous.

I know it's not the "I'm a macho, dang near professional boat driver" thing to do, but SLOW DOWN in those situations, guys! The 30 seconds more it may take you to get to the next spot aren't worth killing yourself or someone else.

Thank the Lord you are all okay.

You are one very lucky family!
Not many people walk away or survive a impact like that. I witnessed the one on Lake Fork last year that killed two people. Someone was looking after you and your family that day.

Wow ... glad no one got hurt!

Sounds like the furthest towards the dam turn in the boat road. If going to 155 itd be the fist left hand turn before it goes to the right again to go through the open area.

I saw that boat while we were at our camp site. It was in the cove to the right in buckhorn. I think ya'll were circling that island. If not, yall are the ones that went behind it and up in the cove. That was pre accident though. Nice boat! Those Pheonix boats are gorgeous!

This does need to serve as a good reminder. Safety above expedience Always!!

1st time I hook a skeeter was on this turn, not sure why two boats would be in a turn at this spot its wide open and easy to see other boats coming

Brad, if I'm reading what TGriffin said correctly he wasn't in the turn yet. He had slowed down because he saw the other boat coming. The guy who was headed toward 155 skipped his boat through the turn and when it finally grabbed he ran almost broadside into TGriffin and his family.

If that person had any experience on that lake he would have known you have to be careful in that boat lane. It's dangerous as all get out. I tell you what I would have kicked his tail over that...Bet on it.

Griff, luck doesn't even come close to describing how fortunate you are my friend, you must be living right. This guy was clearly out of control and hasn't got any business out on the water in a boat. If the guy has insurance I hope he makes you whole, if he doesn't I hope he's off the water for a long long time.
