Has anyone used one of these yet? I was looking into getting the FS128T, but the 12T looks comparable to it. I talked with one of the employees at BPS and he said you could stand just as well in the 12T as you could the 128T. Can anyone shed some light on this? Has anyone used one that has a brief review on them?

I've been searching for a kayak for the past month and a half or so, and want to get as much info on them as I can before I buy one. Obviously, I'd like to paddle one before buying, but don't think that's very possible with this one, since it's at BPS.

Thanks for any info.

BP should be bringing the new FS12T for our Spring GTG on Lake Lavon May10th.

Well, as far as standing or stability, the FS12T specs list length as 12' and width as 31". The FS128T specs list length as 12'8" and width as 33". With a shorter AND narrower hull, it ain't likely the FS12 is as stable as the FS128.

That was going to be my answer. I'm sure they'll have some at the G2G and be able to answer all of your questions if you can make it!!! thumb

Please also keep in mind, standing has as much to do with the person as it does the kayak. Definitely come check it out at the GTG and see for yourself.

I have a 128t and have tried more than once to stand, but my size( 6'4" 245) keeps me from being very comfortable at it

Yep, we will have one available for demo at the next GTG.

Like Chris said, standing for one person is a totally different thing for another person.

I am 6 foot 190 pounds and stand pretty easily in it, although I prefer to sit when fishing (I just don't really like standing).

The main difference in the seat, It is on the heavy side though. I looked at both then went to austin kayak and saw the perception striker. I chose that one for the high low seating options. It comes with a stand assist strap and weight cap of 500lbs. Having the high seat option I don't have to stand. I sit low when paddling but when I fish I slide up..

Not sure whether the 2014 Ascend FS12T has any significant hull changes from the 2011 model that I paddle. I'm able to stand in mine and occasionally paddle it short distances while standing...but I would not do either with gear on board or in cold weather/cold water. Mine is definitely not a stand-n-fish kayak, no matter who is paddling it. I like the yak, though. I fish a lot of different types of water, and it gets me through all of them pretty well. Lakes, creeks, surf, rivers.

The hull on the 2014 FS12T is identical with the FS128T, with a little less freeboard and different deck layout.

I have also been looking at these kayaks. I was also looking at a unit I could actually stand and fly fish on. The thing I noticed is the FS128T was much heavier and the plastic seemed to be much sturdier. I stood on the units and I felt much less give on the FS128T. I really love the unit but I just can't get over the weight. For me, I need something I can easily throw on top of the car.

This was one of the kayaks I was considering while searching for an upgrade from my old yak. There aren't many reviews on them since the current model is so new. The few I've read though started out good, but the longevity seems to be the issue with theme. I've read about the hardware on the seat rusting quickly, the hatches leaking and cracks in the scupper holes. This is all just hear-say as I have no personal experience with them and there's no telling how the users treated their yaks. But it was enough for me to save a little more and go with a tried and true reputable kayak with a long history of satisfied customers, the Ride 115.

I've also read some of these negative reports but I am wondering if some of those posts are the "older" design. It seems the new one has not been on the market long enough to result in scupper cracks/etc. unless it is truly a major design or mfg problem. As far as BPS, IMO and IME they have an excellent customer service reputation and willing to stand behind making things right. Granted, you hate to have to "test" their customer service with a bad buying experience but at least they seem to go out of their way to make things right.

The new kayak was released in mid-February, so that's where I'd start reading reviews.
