I just got back from the big bass splash. Over four days of fishing we had over 100 fish with the biggest being 3 lbs. We fished from the bank to 30' and threw everything from frogs to a Carolina rig. The majority of our fish came on light Carolina rigged flukes and jerk baits. We saw lots of schooling fish busting shad. I was just wondering is the small size typical of Rayburn. I know lots of big fish were caught. Were we just doing the wrong thing or is it that with that many people some are just gonna catch big ones. Just curious of others experience there.

About 21,000+ total fishing days. Some are going to catch some big ones.

I know, just curious if those small fish are the norm there. Everytime I fish the splash on fork I end up wth lots of big slots and struggle for unders. Here it was opposite.

Rayburn has a lot of fish period. With that said, as with any other lake, the vast majority of them are small and are going to be the most aggressive making them the easiest to catch. I think lots of folks get hung up on catching the small ones and won't move and leave them. I firmly believe the big fish hold in groups on Rayburn.

We didn't fish the tournament but did fish there Friday and Saturday. Rayburn is in a typical post spawn pattern. The males are still hanging around bedding areas and the females are recovering from the spawn. It's no wonder a lot of small fish were caught.

I believe it was a TPWD report that said Rayburn is the best place for a 12-14" fish, maybe bassmaster. To me its a small fish lake but if you find the brush piles you can catch bigger ones. Also, most people go to about the same 5 or 6 areas and fish right behind 5 other boats. That's not going to work on that lake. I've been out there many weeks when you can catch them good then Friday it starts to slow and come Saturday its dead. Those dish know boat traffic. That's why most your weekend tourney winners fish north of the crowds. Most people aren't willing to put there boat where those guys go.

It seemed like the typical post spawn areas I would have expected the bigger fish were covered up with 10" Kentucky bass. Those things would eat a bait as big as they were.

As usual a lot of drama. Friday morning a 9.00 pounder weighed in, angler does not have a fishing license. Another Man weighs in big bass of the hour and wins but does not have his t-shirt with him that would have doubled his winnings.

We had a blast fishing it, my dad weighed in a 5.02 so close to $10,000. The guy won using a green pumpkin magic fluke. Exactly what we was using the last two days but couldn't find the big ones through all the Kentucky bass, and props to the guy from cali that let the young boy have the triton boat, need a lot more people like him.

That sux. I imagine you weren't the only one that caught a wave. Usually a few get swamped every year. I know it had to be bad up towards 147.
