OK, this is one of those Sunday morning...too much coffee questions. I'm 58 and have been chasing the little green darlins for most of my life but....I've never understood this.
Does a crawdad-pattern crankbait supposed to represent a crawdad that is swimming backwards? IOW does the diving lip supposes to represent the tail or....does the diving lip supposed to represent the "claw-end" of the crawfish? I'm thinking of wiggle warts wit painted lips....they obviously mimic the tail but....some baits actually have painted claws on the lips. And while I'm on a roll...why put baitfish eyes on them?

Now Entering the Black Forest
Caution:
-camouflage cottonmouths
-stumps are perpetually 4" under surface
-unforecast windstorms
-gators that act funny
-game wardens off their meds

It's a reaction bite, so it's really irrelevant most of the time.

On that note why do A rigs, chrome spoons, spinner baits, buzzbaits and crazy looking creature baits work so well?

It's all about the action of the bait and very basic visible colors for me, many baits please the anglers palate more than the fishes. wink

I have 148 pounds of soft plastics in my boat that agree with that assumption.

Reaction strike but it's supposed to represent them swimming back words.

It's just trying to look like something familiar to the fish, even if its just the color. The big baitfish eyes make it look like something familiar too. Bass aren't too bright.

ha, as said I think one of the few cases where proof the bass has a small brain. laugh however, I've started throwing the Megabass X-DAD. Haven't caught anything on it yet, but sure looks good.
