Any suggestions on the closest place to the Tawakoni dam to cart launch? My wife and I are wanting to go this Saturday morning. I haven't been to Tawakoni in years. Coming from Garland. Thanks!

Right before you get in the first gate @ Holiday Marina there is a road to the right that will lead you to the closest place to launch a yak near the dam.

I was there not long ago and it is quite a ways from the bottom of that ramp to the water. Looks like some folks have driven out, but it was too wet the day I checked it out. Holiday ramp is still in the water and it looked like about an extra 15-20 minutes paddle/pedal from that city/county park ramp. The weather (stiff NE wind) didn't allow us to get to the dam so we ended up hitting Cooper the next day...

FYI Saturday forecast from Weather underground:
Partly cloudy. High of 84F. Breezy. Winds from the SSE at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Chance of rain 20%.
That wind will kick yer tush @ Tawakoni in a center console. I'd be real careful in a yak.

any wind in twok is dangerous on a kayak. but wind blowing south 15-25mph is deadly. i know bass boats wouldn't go out in that condition.

If the wind is from the SSE, you would be pretty well protected at the dam. I would stay within 50 yds of the rocks, and stay to the southern end.

Thanks for all the great info. We will be sticking close to home this weekend because of the wind. Probably hit Lavon.
