 HDS 5.. How the heck do I read this thing.

Some days I wish I could just go back to the days of the inaccurate fish symbol on the old humminbird....  Ping speed, auto sensitivity, this that... whatever. Basically my problem is this my graph is all pink and yellow and blue and just isn't set the right way. Ive tried adjusting all that stuff but nothing seems to look like it should.. What am I doing wrong?

Set it back to "default", then stick it on auto mode. You have to select the proper transducer in the setup menu for it to work properly. You can change the sensitivity a bit to make it show more clutter or less depending on what you want to see. Colorline is set to your preference.
Ping 18, 19 or max.

Gotta wonder exactly what it is you expect as a response. The response by Grout-Scout is a good starting point --- beyond that, you need to get specific if you expect anyone to be able to help you out!

Grout-scout provided a great starting point. The things run pretty good just set on default settings. Might also want to check what color scheme you have selected. It takes a bit of time with the unit and everyone has their own preference on what they think looks good. Here is a link that Jason Gilstrap provided that might give you some additional information. Grout...you gotta help me set up my units...mine are nowhere near that crisp and clear!!! Lss1 I have one!  Well heck I don't know then, lol. I just stuck it on the jackplate and turned it on. I then bought the "new and improved" lss2 and put the lss1 on the trolling motor. My LSS2 has never given me great images. Anyways we better stop hijacking this thread, the OP was asking for sonar details.  This is about as good as my lss2 will give. (Roadbed at Choke Canyon)
