Hey guys. I'm taking my 13 son to San Angelo with me this weekend (from San Antonio) and hope to get out and catch some catfish during the day on Twin Buttes. Does anyone have some advice on where to launch a canoe and what to try. Here in San Antonio on Calaveras I would bait with sour grain chum and drop Big Marv's cheese bait on the bottom. Is that a decent strategy, and if so, North or South pool? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have not fished Twin Buttes since there was water in the equalization channel! Praying to see that again soon.

Seems quiet out there. I'll post a report if anything interesting happens Saturday or Sunday.

There is still some water but not a lot. Your technique works on TB for sure just don't be too disappointed in the lack of water.

Thanks for reply. I don't need too much water for a canoe.

The south pool has more water and I've seen Jon boats out there setting jugs. The north pool still has water in it, just very low. We've been having great success on the north pool, but can still be difficult. I was out last night from 8:00pm til sunrise and got skunked. Moved to 4 different locations and the only thing u could find was gar. The north pool offers you more structures and terrain. Lots of creek channels, etc. you can put a canoe in almost anywhere you want. My suggestion is to drive down to the dam and find a spot to launch from the caliche road there. Cut shad is the best bait out there. They won't even touch perch. You also might want to try carp filets. There's more carp in that lake than I've seen in my lifetime. Huge LMB as well.

Good luck to you. If you see a guy out there fishing next to a black Explorer, stop for a chat. That's me.

Keep your eye on the sky we could get some weather tomorrow that would bear paying attention to.

Make sure you are prepared for gar. Gloves, needle nose, etc. The gar outpopulate the cats in this lake 5-1. You're almost gauranteed to catch at least one while cat fishing. It sucks if you're not prepared to deal with them, so now you're forewarned! Fished for 13 hours Thursday night/Friday morning, and been out here Friday night since 10:00. Gar-7......catfish-0. It's a good lake to get some really nice blues, but you have to deal with the trash as well.

Thanks for the advice everyone. The wind made everything difficult. We wound up fishing Nasworthy. Only caught one two pound catfish, a crappie and a perch. If we could have stayed fishing on the rocks by the dam the crappie were biting jigs, but it was all I could do to paddle and let my son cast and still take a little water in the canoe from waves, so we had to abandon.
