Was on lake Texoma the past couple of days and the spawning carp (and gar) are going at it like crazy in the shallows. The bowfishers were having a hayday. Will carp take a bait while they are in spawn? If so, how would you fish for them? Thanks.

Would you stop to eat while you were, "going at it?"

If it's own Lake Texoma then the fish are most likely small mouth buffalo. They are everywhere along the shoreline this time of year. They will be along the shoreline until the end of May and then they disperse. They can be caught when they are "tailing" or feeding. You will see them with their nose to the ground and their tails elevated to keep their mouths on the bottom of the shore. I have caught them on small crawfish fly patterns. I have never tried bait fishing for them. They do not bite when they are just cruising.

During the Summer they hang out by the hundreds around the marinas (usually around the gas docks) where some people feed them. Most marinas do not allow fishing from their boat docks, but they are easy to catch when people throw them food pellets. The largest buffalo that I have seen hang around the Eisenhower gas docks. There were some monsters there yesterday (04/24).
