Hi Fellow Anglers,

I bought a new boat last year use on February, 2013. I see the cranking battery has a sticker on it dated 1/13. Side note: I always fully charged my batteries after every use. So after it sat around for 4 weeks and I've noticed it was completely dead. Trolling batteries are still good and fully charged. So I tried to start the motor and of course nothing happened. I tried to charge it with the onboard charger and it showed green light for fully charged. Weird, but I've read somewhere that onboard charger won't notice the bad battery and thinking it's fully charged. So I took the battery out and trickle charged to get things back to life. After fully trickle charged over night and reinstalled it and tried again. Sounded like it didn't have enough juice. Battery is rated for 1000 ccranking amps and my motor needed 750 amps. So since my 1 yr factory warranty is over does the interstate battery have warranty for their battery? It stated on the battery it's good for 24 months. My main concern is do I take the battery back to the dealer or to interstate battery dealer? Any suggestions? I know my battery is bad and I don't won't to cough out any money of my pocket if I don't have to. Thanks for all your help. Sorry for the long read.

I had bad luck dealing with the Interstate Batteries of Arlington. She told me that the battery was warranted from the time Interstate sold it to Tracker, not from the time I bought the boat from BassPro.

I took the battery back to Bass Pro and they give me a new battery. They stated the Arlington service center dealer was wrong, the warranty period was from the time it was put into service by the end buyer, not the time it was sold to Tracker.

I would suggest taking the battery out of the boat and take it in to them to test. I would not tell them it was used in a boat. They might then give you a prorated warranty on the battery.

But frankly I would go to Wal-mart and buy the biggest Everstart that would fit in the space. This is what I will be replacing the Interstate batteries with in my boat when the warranty on them expires next August as they fail. I normally get 4-5 years on the Everstart batteries I have used in my boats.

Interstate batteries are horrible, there pretty much gone after a year. My buddy took his back to the battery dealer and they said sorry, only good for 1 year. The battery in question was 14 months old. My starting battery is 18 months and was weak on my last trip. Time for a new one. Get your batteries at Academy, they last for years. Sold my last boat with there batteries in it and they are still running strong after 7 years.

Wow...didn't realized they were that bad. I had 3 boats and they all came with interstate batteries. Look like I'm heading to academy for some battery. Thanks for the help.

I use to have problems with interstates, having to replace all TM batteries within 2 years. 2 boats ago I switched to a 10amp per bank charger, i always had the dual pro 15amp per bank charger. I have not had the problem again. Either I have gotten 2 seats of good batteries, or the charger was the fix.

I've been using Interstates for years in cars, boats, ATVs, lawnmowers and motorcycles. They have always given great service. Several years ago, on the advice of a "friend", I started using the Walmart "Neverstarts". I don't think I ever got a year out of any of them. My "friend" explained that it's cheaper to use the Neverstarts, because they always die under warranty, and you get free replacements. I thought it was stupid; the inconvenience of having a battery [censored] out on you every six to eight months isn't worth it. I replaced four or five batteries in my truck over a couple of years, and my lawnmower annually, and the last time my truck wouldn't crank Walmart refused to warranty it, because they claimed it tested okay. So I went and bought another Interstate. Life is good again.......I haven't had a battery issue since. That was a couple of years ago. I never put Neverstarts in my boat, and I never had battery issues in my boat. You'll never see this boy with another POS Neverstart.

Just a tip when buying an Academy battery. Make sure and check the 'Delivered on' date on the side of the battery. I bought one this last weekend and forgot to check it. Battery would not take a full charge, looked at the date and it was over a year old when I purchased it. Took it back and exchanged it for one delivered this month, problem solved. I won't be making that mistake again.

We sell over 400 Interstate Batteries a year. We have less than a 1% failure rate on their wet cell batteries. I judge this by the number of returns that come in to our store. Battery maintenance is a must and key to battery longevity. Most of our customers are seeing an average of almost three years of use.

yours should still be under warranty. they changed their warranty recently to 12 months like all the others. when they had the 30 month pro rated warranty they are all i would buy.

I had two fail, after one month each in my boat (starting battery). The 3rd one has been in the boat for six months and it is starting to have problems keeping a charge.

What kind of maintenance did I fail to perform on a battery I had for one month? The second failure I pulled my boat from the slip and took it in to be checked. They found nothing wrong with my boat's electrical system nor with the charger I have that they installed on the boat.

If any of them last a year I will replace it with another brand when it fails. So far the batteries have been replaced without charge by the dealer who sold me the boat.

I would bet you have something drawing the battery down.

I have to agree that there has to be something in the boat discharging the cranking battery. I also agree you should not have to go through three or four batteries to get one that last.
