I've been using Gama circle hooks for a few years and have had good success with them, I am debating on trying out the TC Dbl Action hooks because I know there are quite a few guys that use them and say it is one of the best hooks to use. Is this considered a circle hook or do you need to set the hook?

I always use them as circle hooks and let the rod load up then reel down on them. These hooks can be jerked also with a sweeping hook-set.

Let em load and reel down. You can give em a slow big sweep but I prefer to reel down.

If they bite it their hooked in all my experience. Only sheepish nibbles have to have the hook set.

I pretty much only use the double actions, & as long as they hit it hard enough they usually get hung, I just reel down on em. If I see them nibbling on it or they keep pecking at my bait, I'll set the hook on em.

I love them both in the boat and from the bank. Like others said, if they hit hard enough to load the rod they are hooked. Have left them overnight, and came back to find fish over 10 pounds the next morning still hooked up. Also, when I have someone new with me that likes to set a hook, they still can and not cause miss fish. Now, I use a santee cooper rig nearly exclusively with medium heavy rods and solid rod holders and drags tightened down fairly tight.

Will they catch every fish?? NO...... Do i like them enough to buy them and use them?? Yes...I learned quickly.... we fish 2 or 3 guy's a boat running 5 poles each...we all have driftmaster pro duo's..you can be talking or landing one helping some one and turn around and have one on!! We have one friend Regan that sets the hook hard.... i am well pleased and will continue using the 8/0 double action...

Hope you like um mjmetro - Here is a short video that I posted on the TFF years ago. Many like it so Ill post it again. If you want to see how the hook works just watch the short vid - Ain't no hook 100% but the Double Action will catch more then most.....

And I'd been led to believe you're not supposed to set the hook with circle hooks..............

The last two I caught I reeled down on before picking up the rod. Both were barely hooked. They were in the corner of the mouth (hook would have come through near the eye) but neither one was hooked deep enough to bury the barb. 8/0 TC double action hook

I fish Granger Lake/Pflugerville/Decker and the cats aren't HUGE out there-- so I'm on 12 lb test on size 6 trebles or 4 circles depending channels or not-- been using eagle claw but almost bought me some TC hooks today to try them out. I need to make a trip to a lake where i can put some 8/0 and 20-40lb test to use!
