Okay I posted earlier about going to rockport for wade fishing tom. a.m. Someone recommended St. Charles bay so I was planning on there but now I have my map and in red warning label it says there are many alligators in the St. Charles bay. I am new to this and do not want it to be my first and last trip so can anyone confirm the issue of wade fishing amongst alligators if they are in existence at St. Charles bay. I have fished Chok canyon several times and have seen some 18 footers there so do not plan on meeting one of these on foot.

Yes, stick with the road to the ferry between Aransas Pass and Port A fish on the right side of the road past fin and feather bait stand. Go over the ferry and hit the jetties the fishing has been good over there. The ski basin in downtown Rockport is good in the evening.

You don't have to worry about alligators except back by Cavasso Creek.
Alligators can basically be anywhere they want to be, but I haven't seen any by the spots I wade fish in quite some time, St. Charles Bay included.
I'd worry more about what tide to fish than alligators.

I'd worry more about what tide to fish than alligators. Just because you don't see them doesn't mean they aren't there. Just last summer we saw two of them at the boat ramp one evening and 1 more over by egghead the next day. That one was at least pushing 16 ft and I wouldn't be suprised if he was up around 18. Yes they do mainly hang out back by Cavasso and I see alot of "slides" up in salt creek...but I regularly see them out in the main bay system of St. Charles...to the point that I'm pretty cautious when I'm on my kayak.
Man up. Fight the GOOD fight.

There are some gators in most of the spots we fish. I fish St. Charles Bay, and Cavasso Creek, whenever I can get down that way. The gators won't bother you if you use a little common sense. I crowded one in the dark once in Cavasso Creel and it slammed into the bottom of my kayak in the shallow water, trying to get away from me. I just didn't see it in time on the predawn paddle up against the cordgrass, trying to stay out of the wind. The gator had no intention of harming me; it just didn't want to be harmed. Don't crowd them and you'll be okay. I've never met anyone who could honestly tell me he was the victim of an unprovoked gator attack .

Might want to calibrate your eye if you think those gators are 18'...
Record harvested in TX was 14'4". Longest recorded was in LA in 1890 at 19'2".
Either way, even a small one can ruin your day albeit not very likely. Good luck and let us know how the fishing goes.

I'm headed down that way in a couple of weeks. Plan on doing some wade fishing as well as hitting up the surf and the jetties. It will be my first time fishing down there. I was getting more worried about stingrays than alligators.
I'll be checking back to see how it goes so keep us posted.

If ya'll make it across the ferry,be sure and have an afternoon beer on the back porch of Deep Sea Headquarters while watching the boats come in. In memory of the late Capt.Bob Kelley of "Mojo" (my Dad)

Ohh yeah nitro777 - I've got a few alligator story's for ya, but they all had happy endings.
I've even given one a name that hangs out in Copano Bay where our bayhouses are located, .... haven't seen it in awhile, but I have no doubt it's hanging around somewhere.
Last time I saw it, it was cruising the lights under the piers.
