We were vertically fishing off a light that was a good 15 or so yards from the dock. The dock owner and his son come down the hill, turns on the lights and fires a lure within two feet of my boat. Keep in mind, neither my son or I were casting, we were vertically fishing a good distance from the dock. It blows my mind how people think that they own public water. Unbelievable!!!!!!

The audacity... I can't believe a dock owner would want to fish a light that he's paying the electricity to keep on. What a jerk.

Your confused thinking its acceptable to throw a lure purposely toward anyone's boat. They were not their when I arrived or else I would have never stopped.

I've read post after post in this forum where boat owners state it is OK for people to cast their lures around the boats in slips and docks, as the slip owners don't own the water in their slips and docks. But you get angry when a dock or slip owner casts a lure near your boat, since you apparently do own the water around your boat.

The point is that you should never purposely throw a lure in someone's direction, regardless if you are the boat or dock owner. But it is OK to throw lures at or around boats if the dock or slip owner is not present? BTW, I do not believe anybody should throw lures near any boat, regardless of the location of the boat or whether the owner is present or not. But I have been told many times in various forums in this board that it is OK to throw lures at or around boats in slips or docks since the slip/dock owner does not own the water in their slips or docks. So I find it very amusing that a boat owner, fishing the lights within 15 yards of the dock, gets upset because the dock owner fishes the same water, around a light he bought and pays the upkeep so it is available to fish. Sorry but you can beat all the dead horses you want but your reaction when your boat has a lure tossed near it is still amusing, given the dock owner has the same rights to fish that water that you have.

Very interesting EZ. Something to contemplate. I'll have to meditate on your comments while fishing my boat slip.

I fish LBJ often at night and it know of those that don't like people fishing around their lights. I just skip those lights, there are plenty more.

Call me what you will... But when someone is being a D. Ill just be one right back. Id move my boat right up next to the dock and cross lines with him and HOPEFULLY I'd retreive mine before him... Seeing as how I dont have a boat, I guess Ill never have that problem. Like Rudy said No Courtesy, No Respect. You get what you give.

Very interesting EZ. Something to contemplate. I'll have to meditate on your comments while fishing my boat slip. What is so amusing about this thread is that I asked in another thread a few months back how the boater would feel if a slip owner started shooting lures under their boat when they shot lures under the slip owner's boat. I guess we found out. It's not about who owns the water. It is about showing respect and not tossing (shooting) lures around other people's property. Whether you are the slip owner or the boater, you should not toss lures near another person's boat. It does not matter if the boat owner is in the boat nor the slip owner is at the slip, you should not toss lures around other people's boats. Which apparently did not happen in this case. In this case apparently the slip owner simply wanted to fish the water where he had his slip lights but the boat owner was already fishing it. BTW I don't mind people fishing the rear of my slip. I have stated several times where my slip is located and stated that it has lights and fish attractors at the rear of the slip. As I stated I have lights on the rear of the slip plus I have two porcupine fish attractors at the rear of the slip hanging from ropes so people can fish from boats. But I admit it did tee me off when I found my $600 boat cover torn because somebody hung a lure in it and ripped it open to retrieve their lure. It did tee me off when somebody stole 4 rod/reel combo's I forget and left in the rear of my boat one night. It also tees me off to find my anchor ropes damaged from lures being hung in them and then ripped free. I believe both sides need to show manners. Unfortunately I find more bad boaters than I do slip owners. JMHO . ADDED: I should state I don't fish other people's slips so the only slip owners I know are those who share A dock with me. Only one of them doesn't want people fishing his slip. It seems he had a six inch piece torn out of his $1000 boat cover so he doesn't like people tossing lures around his boat now. I do see a lot of boaters fishing slips. 80% of them are what I consider to be well manner but the other 20% destroy the reputation of all boaters who fish slips.
