okay. I slayed the catfish last Friday at Grapevine while drift fishing but the wind was mild, probably only 5-7 mph, perfect. Now, this Sat when I plan on taking my kids, they are calling for 15-25 mph winds. I tried drifting a couple of weeks ago in similar winds and I drifted way too fast. So, I'm thinking about buying a drift sock to slow me down, lol. What are your thoughts? My boat is 20'6" bassboat, so low profile. Academy shows drift socks for $15 or so yet BPS has ones rated for 20' boats up to $50. Is there really that much difference in brands, quality? Should I just skip the whole drifting plan and anchor off and hope to the fish find me or constantly move to find fish?

20' bass boat can probably get by with 2 of the cheaper academy socks. As far as drifting vs. anchoring it can go either way right now. Personally I like anchoring given I can find a decent concentration of fish.

Well, that's sort of the dilemna. They seem to be scattered over a large area vs being stacked up on a windy shoreline so I believe drifting is the best way to stay in the action, but I could be wrong as I'm no catfish expert, lol.

I use two of the ones from academy and they work very well, it is a good investment for your boat and when you need them you will be glad that you got em. As far as quality and different brands I can't give much input because I've only used the ones that academy sells but so far they work for me

I use one 36" sock from academy on my 12' kayak and it drifts its just perfect lol so I would say buy two of them and spend 35 or just spend a little more and buy a bigger better one that will last forever

A couple if the academy socks will work fine. But you might think about getting a ski rope float and tying to the front of the harness. It will save the sock when you forget to tie it to the boat or it slips off a cleat! Don't ask how I know this !!! Lol

good point Tom, I forgot to mention that part and it's exactly why I'm using the academy ones now. Lewisville and Lavon each have a high end sock of mine.
