Yeah, saw that this morning too. I believe most were Yellow Bass though. Not complaining!

Those are not white bass, they are yellow bass. I was fishing a tournament Saturday and I hit many different spots and every one had them dead everywhere and I could see many others swimming around sickly looking like they were dying. The dead ones Saturday were all fresh dead. I took a buddy out for a couple hours this evening and there was even more but they all looked like they had been dead for a couple days or more. I read somewhere that there was a virus that went through the lake a couple, three or four years ago that wiped out the white bass population.

We have had reports from some of our members regarding a "fish kill" on Lake Conroe and Lake Livingston. We have been in touch with our friends at Texas Parks & Wildlife regarding the "kill". Apparently there is a white bass/yellow bass (family of genus) die off somewhere in Texas, during the Springtime, on a fairly regular basis. TPWD also stated that it is usually viral or bacterial in origin.
After their spawn, two things happen: 1-Their immune systems suppressed; 2-Because of their schooling/social nature, they pass around a "fish bug" quite easily. This phenomenon takes place more on Lake Livingston, than other lakes but that it does happen on Lake Somerville and Lake Conroe on an irregular occurrence.
TPWD does not issue a fish consumption ban when they see this, as their research has not shown a transfer of any infection of this type to humans. This type of "kill" does not expand to include other species (Largemouth, Crappie, Catfish, etc). Given areas on a lake can "collect" the floaters due to being wind-blown.
