I've got a 2002 Merc 25 on a 15 ft polar kraft jon boat. It's a great set up that has served me well for the past few years. Now I am looking to gain a little more speed out of her. I have already played around with weight distribution, so now I was wondering if there were any adjustments to be made to the motor, or if a set back plate would help. Thanks.

Get with Steve about a jack plate and prop other than that your wasting money on mods to the motor itself.

I know where a real good 40hp is would be the best idea.

The issue is that I hunt a lot of refuges with a 25 hp restriction. For fishing purposes, yes a 40 would be the way to go. But, I can't afford to have 2 motors (graduating college in 3 weeks) so I'm trying to make due with what I've got. I'll give this Steve guy a call and see what he has to say. Thanks for the input guys.
