Okay so I've moved to New Braunfels, and have an incredible fishing spot in my neighborhood where I've pulled some awesome bass out of. The warmer it gets the more boaters there are and obviously on Saturdays and Sundays. Yesterday (4/19/14) I was out for not even 10 minutes before one of the boats came so close to the shore they caught my line and yanked my rod until my line snapped. Broad daylight. In a river that is easily 60-70 yards across... I feel no man should ever lose a lure from a boat coming so close and disregarding fishermen on shore. Not sure what my point of posting in the forum is, but I just needed to blow some steam and share my story and hell... maybe pick up some clever (legal) ways of messing with boaters so they open their damn eyes or use their manners while out doing their thing.
Share similar stories/ideas if ya got em...

I feel your pain and I'm fishing from a boat. I fished there yesterday afternoon. I wonder if it would help if we recorded some of these fools and turned it over to the appropriate authority. They are not supposed to be creating huge wakes and creating general havoc on the water. Sometimes its like a Tsunami coming in. I have almost been beached or thrown into a dock before.
We all share the lake and need to be aware of each other out there.

I fished a tournament out there yesterday and the ramp was a madhouse. It took over a hour to load because of the jet skis and pleasure boaters at the ramp. They back down the ramp to the waters edge then load and prep their boats. That drives me nuts. As far as getting your line wraped in their prop it's on them for being rude, but things will not change out there and it will only get worse as the summer goes on. I have had some do the same thing, I have been guilty of opening the bail on my reel and let them have all the line. On the bright side our group caught some good fish, took 17 pounds and some change to win.

Yeah... it's just bad. such a shame because the fishing has been great lately.
I threw out my line on purpose when I saw some folks coming in close to shore to see how they would react. So I'm not that mad about losing my jig. It just disgusts me that people are that disrespectful to where they can steer their boat just slightly to avoid a very obvious group of people fishing. These boaters were an elder couple maybe early or mid 60's... you'd think they would have some manners. These young kids driving daddy's wake boarding boats are also horrible. but at least none of them have stole my lures yet. They just bring the tsunamis and then leave.
But as far as reporting to authority... there's really not too much they do right?

I believe I read on TP&W website that a boater is responsable for any damage caused by his/her wake. Get the TX number next time and report them.

The wake boats and jet skiers suck up there. I've had skiers close enough that I was sprayed with water when they went by. It also amazes me at how many older boaters have no common sense when driving their boat. They go 20mph right up the middle of the river so you cant get around them. I've fished up there about 100 times and have only seen fish and game 1 time. I know they are busy, but they need to patrol that place a little better. I see boats with 10 people on them and everyone guzzling beer. I'll probably end up with boat rage by the time summer is over.

that place is a mad house! i was out with my Girl one day in my kayaks and i saw to many boats full throttle going around bends with no intent on slowing down.. i also saw one fool pass another boater like he was in the left lane of the highway as he was doing this the entire boat would launch off the water and back down happened 3 times as i nervously watched hoping he wouldnt lose control and hit us which of course we were hugging the bank

Maybe when the fishing line eats up that dudes LU deals he will think about how it got there. Hopefully he will not notice the grease leaking and will end runno g on pure water. Either way he will be out some mula.

I would rather have a bass boat go by me at full speed then slow down for me. At speed there is no wake. To many people think they are helping by slowing down, but it just makes the wake 10x more than it should be.

They just cause a giant wake. If your in a bass boat then just zoom by because there is very little wake. All other types of boats need to slow way down. The law states you are responsible for the damage done by your wake.

Might be a good idea to start getting the fools on video and put them on Youtube for all the world to see......boaters hall of shame.
