I caught this one of these "fish", it's really a minnow, about two years ago when I was fishing in a tournament at a large private lake with one of my buddies. I somehow snagged it on a 6xd crankbait. We looked at it and we both said we'd never seen one of these. I thought nothing of it and threw it back in the water. Then I started wishing I had kept it so we could try to identify it. A few days later I was fishing at home at Conroe and I caught this one on the same 6xd. This time I took pictures of it. I looked all over the internet and couldn't find it. Anyone know what it is? It's about 3 1/2 or 4 inches long.

Thanks for the info! I have been fishin for a long time, throwing cast nets and all that stuuf and I'd never seen one. I haven't seen another one since but I caught 2 in a week at 2 different lakes. I wish they grew bigger, it is a cool looking fish

+1 on log perch, my son caught 1 a couple of years ago in a cast net, we took it to TPWD for identification, I have thrown a firetiger pattern crank bait a little more ever since.

Yep comes up every year, I had one in my fish tank, but somehow disappeared. I guess the other larger perch ate it.

Had it in my aquarium and it die from starvation. It was really skinny when I got it out. Great bait too by the way. Caught lots of them with a seine net at Grapevine lake.

got 2 of those last year out of worth in my cast net. now i know what they are.

You got fish bait there! Put it on a hook and catch some fish!!

You can catch them with a tiny hook and worm (like # 14) while fishing for sunfish..... minnows too...
