Proof positive that big live baits catch bigger red snapper: Capt. Don Miller, owner of the 29-foot Fountain "Special Ops," shows off a 12-pound snapper taken out of Freeport last week on an XL Offshore-Size Black Salty live baitfish.

The 7- to 8-inch baits did great in the livewell (not a single fish lost to mortality) but went fast to five-person limits of snapper and king mackerel, along with a 37-1/2-inch ling that Don's wife, Jill (a Tracker Marine sales rep) caught from behind a shrimpboat on the way back in.

The big baits come roughly 40 to a 5-pound box; for info, go to www.blacksalty.com (more photos on the Offshore Photo Gallery) or call toll-free 1-877-GO-SALTY (467-2589).

To book a trip aboard "Special Ops," a first-class operation, call Capt. Miller at 713-899-7598, e-mail fishspecialops@houston.rr.com or check the Web at www.bluewateroffshorefishing.com.

There was, of course, a "big one that got away" ... an estimated 20-pound-plus sow that broke Co-Captain Joe Gilleland's 30-pound mono halfway up from around 110 feet down.

Good fishing to all ...

Boz

I love Captain Elliots. I have went on 2 or their trips a 12 hour and a 24 hour. Had a blast and caught a bunch of fish both times.
