well my parents came up for easter and yesterday was a nice day so me and him hit the pond infront of my daughters highschool while we were waiting for the girls to get outa school. i grabbed my proven ultra lite and road runner combo and he wanted a road runner head with black and chartruse tube jig on the old zebco 33. he rigged it all kinds of messed up. we got there and i let him pick his spot, we established the rules for the bragging rights tourney then hit it. my last words were you aint gunna catch s with that! i hit my usual spot that produces almost every cast. nothing. 3 casts in and hes got a nice 2.5 lb bass! biggest ive ever seen out of there! ok so im behind. no biggy. then for about 20 minjtes im watching all these bass sitting on beds and cruising around but no takers. nothing! look across the pond and hes got another! about the same size! what the hack is going on! ive got all the right stuff! right lure, better rod, better reel, im hitting these fish in the mouth and putting my lure in the middle of the beds! i can see them staring at it! and here he is with a gaged up zebco 33 and lure thats just not right and hes catching! once again i feel like luke skywalker and i challenged yoga to a light sabre fight. the force is strong with the old man! and once again i am in my place. was about to load up all the rods and whip that ponds butts just to prove a point, but we all know it would have continued the same way. lol was good to get out with the old man again. even if i got skunked.

So glad to hear of another ol' mans experience being a success. Those ol' 33's are some kinda hard to beat. An old memory is down at Galveston Gulf Coast pier and picking up a 7 1/2 pound stingray with the 33 and help of a gaff to lift up to the pier. Still have the ol' reel and will keep it ready for my grandkids. I can only imagine that your dad feels so good not that he caught some but the opportunity of fishing together is awesome. Thanks so much for the report.

Some of my greatest memories are those fishing with my boys. Having a little contest between use provided some great memories. cool post.

That's a great story. I got to go fishing with my best friend and his granddad on a pond in Oklahoma and he used a Zebco 33 with a purple and pink tail worm and kicked our butts all day long. It brings you back to reality when you remember that you can catch fish on the most basic of equipment. Sometimes instinct is better than 10 ball bearings.
