This is Cliff Hilbert, I wanted y'all to know that Dale passed away about 5:00 this morning after a brief illness. I don't know yet if there will be any type of memorial service, but I'll let you know when I find out.

Very sorry to hear this. Dale was one of the best and would give you the shirt off his back. I have several of his little foam spiders, some will go onto my permanent collection and not fished. But each time I do fish one of his flies will mark a connection to a great guy. Rest in peace Big Dale, the fishing there will be better with you on the streams.

I was absolutely crushed to read this, this morning. I have not seen Big Dale in a while, but I fish many of his flies and think of Big Dale often, when I do. I loved reporting back him when I did, because they were always successful. I will miss reading what Big Dale had to say, because he shared a lot of valuable knowledge. While the Roadkill Round Table is dwindling on Earth, it is growing in Heaven. You will be missed, Big Dale!

Sad to hear. He was a great guy. I, too, have one of his famed foam spiders, which I keep on my tying table.
He'd clearly been in failing health for awhile, but one could always hoped he'd recover and have more time to tie and fish.

Sorry to hear of his passing, only met him once and was given some of his foam spiders. Clearly a giver.

Hey George, the Orange and white, the maroon, and the red and black foam spiders were part of Dale's college collection. He also had some purple and yellow for LSU. He'd make a comment when someone picked one. He had a great sense of humor.

So sorry to hear this about Dale. We lost a hell of a good guy! May he rest in peace!

Dale was a Texas Tech Red Raider, but he liked to tie the foam spiders in friends college colors. I treasure my orange and whites from Dale. I've tried to tie those little spiders, but I can never get one to look like his. Cast to the light Dale, that's where the good ones are. RIP.

I've always admired Dale's sign-off, (and at least once or twice, I've sneaked it into my own posts.) Fine epitaph, and even better words to live by: Have fun with this stuff. Big Dale _____
