I am looking at installing 1 or 2 8' powerpole pro II on my Triton TR-186. Since this addon is really fairly expensive, I wanted to get some input from you guys to help make the decision. Is putting the second one on that much better. If you were facing the wind, would having 2 poles down really prevent the front of the boat from swinging around. How steady is the boat with 1 and 2 poles down, does wave action lift the poles up with the boat or do they maintain a steady downward pressure. Is the 8' blade model worth the extra money and why. Lastly, how much drain do these put on the main cranking battery or would I be better off adding another battery. Thanks for the help, in the past asking here first has saved me many times.

I had a single 8' on my Skeeter for 2 years. Worked great! Yes with a single one, you would have to set up down wind to fish things properly. NO they will not lift up due to the wave action.
I would defiantly recommend two if you can go that route, but one is still SOOO much better that none.
I had the original Signature Series, so the controls were different. No constant motor drain even with the boat parked. I never had any issues running it off of my cranking battery during a day of fishing.

If you can swing it get 2. No doubt it is better. I just purchased a new boat and had fished with just 1 for numerous years. In my opinion it is a big difference. The hold and pressure really comes down to a couple of factors. A: Just how hard is the wind? B: What is the bottom you are trying to anchor to. I was fishing this past Sunday in a very rocky lake and the wind was gusting at 40. I did move around a bit when on the rock. If I could pole-down in mud or clay I was still. I am sure others will give you their thoughts and bring up some pros & cons either way. You will never say I wish I would have just got 1 pole, but you could say I sure wish I would have got two!

If you can swing it get two! Makes it so much easier to hold your position, I had problems at first draining the battery if the boat sat for a couple weeks but after adding a perko to cut it off when parked it hasn't been an issue.

I recently purchased a TR-186 with one. Yes, you have to setup right in the wind. I did find a trick that helps... Set up the trolling motor to swing into the wind and keep steady. Variable speed is great for this. Not perfect, but gives a cast or two if you are out of position. If your steering cables are tight enough and the wind isn't too bad you don't have to hold your foot.

The new software update fixes the battery draining issue. You will not need two batteries under normal operation. If you get one you will wish you had two.

If you can swing two definitely get two. If not, one is still awesome.

I guess the final answer is 2. And I am assuming that all the responders here have power poles and not Talons. I had a 8' Talon on my other boat and it worked just fine, but I have to agree with a reviewer I read on the forum that talked about the power poles going down and out of the way of casting which the Talons clearly don't. I can remember hitting that Talon with my rod or catching the lure on it more than once. This time, power poles. I still think 8' is enough for most Texas lakes with coves to fish. Do the power poles come with some kind of bracket? I will need to mount mine using the motor holes because I do not have a motor lift bracket.

The come with the hardware for a direct transom mount. Brackets to offset them and move them back have to be purchased separately.

Definitely smaller profile, feel a little sturdier when stowed but my S2's don't wiggle or bang around either. To me they weren't worth the extra, to others they are.
