Hello:
I'm new to freshwater fishing. Bought some gear at Academy and Walmart so I'm ready to go. I know nothing of freshwater other than catching a bass maybe. I'd like to know how to catch and clean catfish, crappie and other fish like that in this area. I don't have a boat so I've been bank fishing at Blanco State Park and Guadalupe State Park. I'm willing to drive anywhere between Canyon Lake and Kerrville if someone has the patience to teach a freshwater newbie how to fish properly, successfully and respectfully.

Hey Leaf Chaser, welcome to the best Fishing Forum there is......
I wish we were closer but we aren't. HOWEVER, although, there are a few things to help. since you are near or at least mentioned the Guadalupe State park, Blanco State Park, and Canyon Lake. Well there are a lot of places to fish from the back in the first two.....not sure about the 3rd, but I bet there are. Start by going to YouTube and search by "bank fishing for xxxxx" put in bass, crappie, catfish..... you can even put in the state parks name or even canyon lake....true, you will get some that won't match up, but some will. Try putting in "Bass fishing tips and techniques" then substitute the other fish types. you can even try the different types of lures.... at least that will get you some info, and get you started until you find someone close.

I did look it up. Stopped by Bass Pro Shops today in San Antonio and got me some worms, (white and dark), and some hooks. Gonna try out some worm action tomorrow with this new Texas rig thingy I learned :-) Thanks, buddy.

The Texas Rig is the bomb! you can use it on ANY type of soft bait. When the bass are on beds, get some craw's and Texas Rig them.....just walk it across the bottom, it drives the bass wild.
I fish in a lot of places that have a LOT of grass and weeds....if you don't Texas Rig it weedless, you spend more time cleaning the weeds off of your hook than you do fishing! lol
